Gotta Know Who You Are

A tip of the hat to Bob Dylan (photo); poet and long-time inspiration. His song, 'Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat' is linked.

All this and all that
You caught me watching right off the bat
Stand tall, get set
Can I bum one of your cigarettes?

I've researched the situation and must confess
You look mighty fine over there in your little black dress
Is it the bass or the drums or even the saxophone?
If it takes all night I'll discover what turns you on

Blackjack, what a hat
You move through the room like a Siamese cat
Dressed up so fine
The trail of your scent marks the scene of a crime
Lucky no one can hear me think out loud
The way you dance makes the man in me stand proud

Last call, no surprise
Ain't it funny how the time flies
Downtown just say so
We'll share a cab if you're ready to go

In the taxi we traded tit for tat
While the radio played Dylan's Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat
Is it the night or the booze, maybe it's in the stars
If it takes ten years I've gotta know who you are
