I gasp for breath, my legs beginning ache from the constant running I've done today. I continue to sprint forward with Morty and Rick close by, being sure to watch out for the chaos that follows. I look behind me to see the possessed clones of Jerry, Beth, and Summer continue after us.
"Oohh shit, they're getting close!" I manage to say.
"Just run!" Rick yells out.
Just when we reach the end of the hall, I feel a body fall over mine. I hit the floor and look up to see Beth's clone grab on to me. I do my best to push her away, only to fail in doing so. I look around for help, just to see that Rick is in a similar position to mine.
"Morty, do it! Hit the button now!" Rick demands while fighting off Summer and Jerry.
" I can't do it, Rick! They're my parents and sister!" Morty responds, holding on to the device that flew out of Rick's hand moments before.
"Morty, I already told you, it's not your family! They're clones from an alternate reality possessed by demonic alien spirits from another dimension's future! Do you need a mnemonic device or something? Just hit the button already!" Rick shouts back at the shaky teen.
"Ah fuck....You think you might wanna help out your actual family, Mort?!" I yell out to him, now trying to deal with Summer's clone as well. With my focus divided I fail to notice Beth walk away from me and towards Morty. Not long after I notice the other clones doing the same. I get to my feet, seeing that Morty must have done what he was told because of the bright light that lit up the room in front of me. I cover my eyes from the brightness while Rick runs over to close the small box at the center of the room.
"Good work, Morty." Rick praises before opening a portal near by, being sure to take the box with him. I follow him through it with Morty falling close behind. After landing back in the Smith's garage Rick hands me the device to put away. I hold the machinery up with a smirk.
"Nice job, Mort. These demonic alien spirits are really valuable!" I comment before hearing a retching sound coming from the corner of the room. I glance over to see that Morty had vomited on the floor. I wince in disgust and concern while putting away the box on the shelf.
"You okay, Morty? Told you not to trust that tuna." Rick comments over at him.
"I just killed my family! I don't care what they were!" Morty says defensively at the both of us.
"I dunno, Morty. Some people would pay top dollar for that kinda breakthrough." Rick responds. I walk over to Rick's side with my arms crossed, looking over at where Morty is standing.
"Yo chill out, bud. You're fussing over nothing." I add on, trying to calm him down a bit.
"Y-You know what, Rick and (Y/N)? That's it! I-I'm done with these...insane adventures! That was really traumatizing! I quit! I'm out!" My eyes widen a bit from his response. As Morty was about to walk out Rick grabs his shoulder.
"Whoa whoa whoa, come on, Morty! D-D-Don't be like that! The universe is a crazy and chaotic place!" Rick attempts to reason.
"You two are the ones that are crazy and chaotic! Adventures are supposed to be simple! And fun!" Morty says, pushing Rick's hands off of him.
"Ha well someone still hasn't learned the reality of the world yet." I say under my breath, tapping my foot in irritation. I get that it isn't his fault for not understanding, but it bugs me that he tries blaming us for things we have no control over.
