"Honey, did you remember to talk to her today." The man said to the woman who stood by his side. The couple stood in the middle of the woods side by side. By the looks of them you'd think they were prepared for war.

The couple wore matching outfits of equally strange fashion sense. Army jackets with the pockets all filled, satchels bulging with different items, gun hostlers with belts of ammo, and a dagger strapped to each of their right legs. The man had a strange device in his hand, it looked like a GPS but it wasn't, no locations where seen just rings marked with numbers getting larger the further it went away from the middle.

The woman huffed a breath and pushed her black rimmed glasses up on her nose. "Yes, Dear, I did. She said she hadn't seen anything except what she did two days ago. I already told you this Adam." The woman frowned and it changed the pattern of freckles on her honey brown skin. Her chocolate brown eyes scanned the area once again.

The man sighed through his nose. "Stacy, I know. But you know I had to ask again." He ran a hand through his course black hair and bit his lip, anxiety was clearly written on his face. "This isn't good. We have no idea which of them we're dealing with. If it's one of the-" a noise in the distance cut him off.

"This isn't the time." The woman hissed back at the man without looking at him. She couldn't let him see the fear in her eyes, it would break him, she had to be strong. She looked up to the full moon through the branches of the tree and took a deep breath.

They both knew the unspoken words. If this was the one that they thought, they had no chance. "We called everyone. There isn't any other choice, we just have to hope that-that it isn't who we think." Her voice caught in her throat. She had always been the rock in the partnership, the one with a plan and the one to keep a clear head, but now even she was scared-no, she was terrified.

A snarl rippled through the dark woods and sent the hair on the back of their necks straight up. The man opened the duffle bag that sat on the ground. After reaching in he tossed his wife a shot gun and took one for his own. They both readied their extra ammo from their satchel and belt.

When the snarling beast stalked out from between two trees the couple was not surprised. They aimed their weapons but something happened that they didn't suspect.

Three other snarling animals made their way out. And two humanoid shapes appear from nowhere behind the couple. They were surrounded.

"Well. I never thought you'd be working together." The woman remarked. The only response was a growl and a bone chilling laugh before the monsters lunged.

The girl sighed as she closed her locker. Her shoulders slumped forward as she placed her head on her now closed locker. She felt a hand rubbing comforting circles on her back as someone leaned on the locker next to hers.

"Hey, Callie, you alright?" The sweet and caring voice of her best friend since childhood, Baby Garland, filled her ears. He stood quite a bit taller than her at 6' 2" compared to her own 5' 5". So when she just leaned into his chest he looked like he swallowed her up.

"Yeah it's just. . ." She didn't know how to describe it. Today was just not good. "I keep getting those looks because of the day today and it just makes it so much worse." Her friend squeezed her a bit more.

"Aw, Calypso, I. . ." Baby brushed a stray lock of curly black hair behind Calypso's ear. "I can't say I understand because I don't but I'm here for you to talk to. You know that. And, here, I have an idea," Baby pulled away and held on to Calypso's shoulders to look her in the eyes, his green to her blue. "You can come over tonight. Mom and Dad already want you to, we talked about it. We'll have dinner then spend all night watching movies and eating junk food."

Calypso couldn't help but smile, Baby's smile was always contagious. He just had the aura to make anyone feel better and his cuddly nature just made him even more of a teddy bear. All he had to do was walk into a room and she felt better.

"Thanks B, I don't know what I'd do without you." Calypso wiped her eyes and sighed. Baby smiled at her again and she straightened up. "Okay, I think I'm good now." Baby chuckled and patted the top of her head.

When they turned to walk to their Chemistry class she clung to his arm. She took comfort in his familiar smell of vanilla and sweets. As they weaved through the busy halls the best friends walked beside each other bumping hips and giggling at inside jokes.

Finally they sat down at one of the two people desks in their Chemistry class. This classroom was always cold. Baby zipped up his green hoodie and pulled the sleeves over his hands. Calypso fallowed suit by taking the sweatshirt she had tied around her waist off and pulling it over her head so she was wrapped in its warmth.

The logo on the grey sweatshirt was faded from years of use, you could barely make out the name of the local collage Nysa University. It was her dad's and she never went a day without wearing it. It was much too large for her tiny frame but she didn't care. Especially today, she didn't care.

Baby smiled at her as he unloaded his books for the class from his space themed back pack. Calypso sighed and pulled out her class supplies from her tie-dye shoulder bag she used as a back pack. The teacher, Mrs. Borba, walked in as the bell rang and started class.

As the final bell rang and kids poured out of classes Calypso took her time. After all why rush when your best friend had a car? So she walked to her locker to drop things off before meeting Baby at the entrance. The two held hands and swung them back and forth as they walked to his beat up old car.

As they went Calypso let her eyes roam over the students left. Nothing interesting just kids who looked like they'd be from a small town in the middle of nowhere. Welcome to Nysa, California, a little beach town out of the way of most everyone and you only knew about it if you ever lived there.

As she walked Calypso's dark black hair bounced in its curly ringlets. Her hand contrasted with Baby's pale skin with her own golden brown. The two of them were so different yet so similar, she sometimes felt like they were one person.

Calypso climbed into Baby's beat up blue car as he walked around it. Once he got in he turned on his music and they sang along as he drove her home.
