the soft, delicate fingertips of her acrylic built nails that simmered up a shade of burnt orange, almost like a leaf in autumn that aged beautifully as winter crawled upon its stomata dribbled in a rhythmic pattern against the birch wood desk she sat upon. she comforted on a old but sturdy desk chair with a faded yellow cushion, enough to form her well. her eyes watered in a way they have never before- carson, her boyfriend, was her first real love and she didn't want to give it up. something in her burned like a wildfire, she knew carson was acting strangely in the bits of
things lately. tonight was the night she'd get to the bottom of it, so she alarmed carson to meet her at her studio apartment downtown- this way she could confront him square.
a lousy ring sound forced from her small one-room, kathy jumping to her nike black sneakers to answer the door. she lengthen to the contraption, scared of the thought what would happen next. something bad, something not good.
the door flung open and the wind left behind it flew a lock of kathy's dark brown hair behind her ear. carson stood in his glory, looking up in his blue eyes to meet kathy's.
"come in." kathy forced from her throat, the words sounding dry and unlike her usual self-contained voice. carson followed through using the allowance next to kathy's small frame, his rigid hands making themselves way into the pockets of his camo joggers. he sighed heavily, followed by the slam of a heavy door.
"where have you been?" kathy asked seriously, her look strengthening with anger but also a overlay of depression, her eyes waterworking again. her fingers fell into a soft fist.
"babe, i can explain-" carson walked closer to kathy, softly placing his arm on the other's shoulder, but she brushed it off violently.
"tell me now!" her voice cracked in a fit of sudden anger, her eyes watering even more to the point of a tear dripping down her pale cheeks.
carson wandered to a loveseat in her apartment drooping his head into his hands, roaming his fingers in his blonde hair stressfully. kathy made her way to a living chair close to the couch carson sat upon. "please, just tell me." her voice showed obvious despair, her curiosity taken over her. she wanted to get the bottom of things.
"i've been seeing someone else." carson said quietly, not making eye contact with the others shadow whatsoever, he was too ashamed. kathy looked down at her feet and more tears silently tripped down onto her cheeks, onto the jeans over her thighs.
"and it's a man." carson stuttered. kathy looked up in disgust at the other, gasping in suprise.
"and.. it's shrek."
