It was a fine day in the small town of Dahlonega, Georgia. The birds were chirping. The bees were buzzing. There were kids in the park laughing and having fun. After the initial shock of how beautiful everything is, you start to wonder. Then, you start to worry. Dahlonega has that effect on you. You love the sights until you actually see them. You love them until you know what they mean. You see the happy faces of the townspeople, but if you look closer, you see no one actually happy at all. To see someone happy is the best feeling in the world. Especially, when you know you are the cause of that happiness. And that, is exactly what Moony needed to find out.
In this town, there is a young man by the name of Moony. He has fiery red hair, and no respect for authority. He has no parents to teach him manners, not that he liked them anyway. But he had something great. Something spectacular. He had... A heart.
As moony sits in his bedroom, at his desk, he stares longingly out the window. As he sits there, (on a barrel for a chair), Moony just let his thoughts wander off about anything and everything really. Until he couldn't take his thoughts.
"Chip, come here!" Moony yelled across the house. All of a sudden, he could hear the pitter patter of a dog's nails tapping against the hard wooden floor. Then as he looked to the door he saw his loyal, golden retriever Chip come into his room. "Good boy, Chip," Moony whispered as he scratched Chip behind the ears.
Moony laid on the floor next to chip, so that they could be closer. They have always been best friends. "Hey Chip," Moony asked, "What do you think mom would say if she was here?" Chip just shook his head, and Moony pretended that the gesture meant 'I don't know.'
Moony's mom had died three years ago in a fire. No one know how the fire started, but Moony wanted to find out.
On his way home from school, Moony was jumped by 3 guys twice his size. Those guys were his personal tormentors, Jack, Austin, and Adrian. Now, they had been bullying him for about a month at this point, and it was just getting worse every time. And, he was only bullied for one thing. Moony was colorblind, and on this particular day, his bullies made sure he wouldn't forget it.
As Moony was walking home, he saw his bullies walking behind him slowly. So, he stuck his pinkie fingers in his mouth and let out a very high pitched whistle. His bullies froze behind him, and just stared at him with intense gazes.
Moony just kept walking like nothing happened, and like he hadn't done anything.
Adrien just laughed and thought he was scared. Moony walked farther until he reached an old bike path that lead straight to his family's farm. Once on that path, he turned around towards his bullied and whistled again. Then he looked straight into Adrian's eyes.
Adrien was confused. This has never happened before, so why was he doing this now? Why did he whistle again. Then he remembered. Moony had a dog. A BIG dog.
Moony watched as Adrien's facial expression changed from a smug smile to a look of fear. Inside of Mooney's head, he was thinking about the three ways this could happen. The first way being Moony and Chip just scared them off. The second way, Chip could injure them. The third way, Chip wouldn't show up and Moony would get beat up... again. But Moony couldn't help but hope it was the first or the third way. Under no circumstance would he ever want chip to hurt anybody. Even if the people were horrible. Moony just didn't have the heart. He was someone who would rather suffer than watch someone else get hurt. That trait wasn't even taught to him. It was just...Him.
Moony finally started to walk toward his tormentors. He confronted them and asked, "Why me?" Silence. That's all anyone heard. Just, silence. Moony then shouts, "WHY ME!" By then he had tears in his eyes. Although he shouldn't have, he started to feel like the bad guy.
