The curious case of Sam Weathers. How someone so young and bright could end up six feet under the ground it was never found out. After all it is called the curious case of Sam Weathers for a reason though it is not for the reasons you think.

Sam Weathers was the pride of town. Her auburn hair and silver-ringed cerulean eyes entranced all who laid eyes upon her. The town loved her naturally humorous and easygoing nature as did they love how she never seemed content with what she knew. Sam always sought knowledge. Knowledge of medicine; to aid the ill. Knowledge of secrets; to root out those corrupted. Knowledge of the mind; to ease those with troubled thoughts. Her family loved the little initiative she had, how she always seemed to know what extra mile to go to in order to please them. Her friends loved how she respected them and was always compassionate in treating them. Her teachers loved her inquisitive nature, how she kept seeking more and more from them and couldn't seem to be quenched. It delighted them all. The little things she did that made their day.
So it was to everyone's horror that Sam Weathers was killed.
It was a Saturday evening when Mr and Mrs Weathers came back home from their dinner. The sky was especially foreboding with its abyssal ash appearance. The couple silently thanked their blessing of a daughter for reminding them to bring umbrellas earlier that morning. The bullets had rained down hard on the earth as if the heavens were crying. Considering the tragedy that was about to unfold, maybe they were.
The first sign came when they noticed the door unlocked. Careless was something Sam was not. In fact, the very thought of putting careless and Sam together seemed outrageous. And yet there they were, a hand on the doorknob that easily clicked open with the ominous meaning that Sam had not locked the door.
The second sign was when they noticed that the dinner on the table had not been touched. There on the rectangular mahogany table was a beige ceramic plate with steak still on it; untouched and gone cold.
The third sign was the sound of running water coming from upstairs. Was Sam bathing? At 9pm at night? Surely not. She bathed at 7pm. And yet there it was, the distinct sound of running water from the bathtub tap.
The fourth and final sign that sealed the question in the couple's minds that something was wrong - in case the previous three weren't a dead giveaway - was the haunting fact that when they greeted their usual "We're home!", Sam did not come running down to greet them back.
Alarmed and worried they ran up the stairs to the bathroom, two steps at a time. Their immediate reaction to the bloody scene was to pinch themselves and laugh it off as a dream. Somewhere deep down they knew what they were seeing was not a dream. Never in their lives would they have expected their precious Sam to meet such an untimely end - or perhaps it wasn't as such.
There laying in the bathtub which had already begun to overflow with the excess water, was their daughter. Face pale and lips turning blue, the horrifying sight was forever ingrained in their minds. The water had been dyed an eerie crimson coloring, centering from the single knife emerging from her abdomen. It had been too much of a shock for Mr and Mrs Weathers who simply stood at the doorway mortified. A torrent of emotions washed over them, taking the usual pink flush of their faces along with it. It was as if someone had ripped their heart out, squished it and slammed it back into their lifeless bodies.
That night the town felt the full force of Sam Weathers death. Some were devastated; crying and sobbing till their eyes puffed up. Some channeled their sorrow into rage; demanding they find out who killed their oh so precious Sam. Some were in denial; maniacally laughing off any attempts at bringing them to the reality where Sam was dead.
Sam Weathers death broke the town.
It was never the same after that. They soon realized just how much Sam Weathers meant to them when they were faced with a harsh reality where she wasn't in it. The little things she did for them had affected them. The town were hit with the sudden realization of how dependent they were on her. In a way, Sam Weathers had managed to bury a place in everyone's heart for herself.
Years later, the town had learned to cope. They had learned to reach out to others. Of course no one could ever replace dear old Sam - that much they all agreed. Despite all the determination to bring Sam's killer to justice, they never did find them. Whether they were too elusive or maybe had just left the town altogether the town will never know.
There was a reason however, as to why Sam Weathers killer was never found. After all how were they to bring a corpse to justice?

The curious case of Sam Weathers. It was never that hard a case. The townspeople just simply could not bring themselves to accept the truth. I suppose the curious case of Sam Weathers isn't so curious after all.
