The Meet

I laughed walking down the hallway arm and arm with my best friend Cat. She and I share a rocky relationship, but there is no one else that I would rather rock the boat of life with. She and I had been friends for over a year, but I felt like as if I have known her my whole life. It was the end of the day, and we were finally going home after being in school for eight hours. One more year and I'm no longer forced to do anything or be any where I don't want to be. Being in a place like school reminds me to do good things in life because the adult version of high school is prison. Cat shoves her short, brown locks behind her ear, and readjusts her purple, cat like glasses. Her glasses framed her hazel eye illuminating them; her oval shaped face was porcelain, white and smooth. Her natural appearance reminded me of what an angel would look like. We walked together until it was time to depart for our transportation home every day. She continued talking, going on and on about this guy she went on a date with last night with.

"He is nothing like Camden," she ended the story with that statement, and all I could do was roll my eyes in annoyance. Camden is the guy she has been on and off with for a year. The guy who always makes me a third wheel, and is the reason my best friend flakes, most of the time, on me for. Camden and her break up every other week or two maybe, but this is the longest they have been broken up so who knows. I've always told her how much better she could do. We walk out of the office door exit headed to the car rider line. We walked through our school court yard as mobs of teenagers of all sizes, shape, and race shuffle like cattle to their transportations. Some head to their buses, some linger in the court yard waiting for the after school clubs or sports to start, and the rest push and shove their way toward the car rider exit doors. It's sunny outside, a cool breeze flows every now and then, and the smell of rain was in the air. Caroline's parents gifted her a car and she got her permit right when she turned fifteen, so she is one of the fortunate ones. Unlike me, I usually get to wait on my ride.

"Well I guess, it could have been worse," I say opening the finger-print stained, glass doors to the car rider line, and student parking.

"I guess you are going to be waiting a while," she says and I follow where her eye sight is focused on, and she is right anyone who knows Autumn is if she is late she makes it count. Cat starts across the crosswalk shouting her love for me and a goodbye.

"I love you too dork," I wave goodbye to her as she hops into her cream convertible Volkswagen. I walk to my go to spot and read the text from Autumn stating how she is going to be late, well isn't that stating the obvious. So, on that note might as well get comfortable. I popped my ear plugs in and started my MatchBox 20 playlist.

"Excuse me," a tall, tan boy says to me tapping my shoulder to get my attention.

"Yes?" I say taking my earplugs out kind of annoyed.

"Do you mind if my friend uses your phone to call his mom? I don't have a phone and his is dead," he asked.

"Sure, I can do that," I say as he politely says "Thank you."

Another boy that was behind the tall tan boy steps forward as I extend my phone out to him.

"Thanks," he says as he begins punching in the phone number.

His brown hair falls into his green eyes, and he begins to shake it back out like a dog. He is tall, but not that much taller than me. His freckles stretch along with his pearly white smile as he has a conversation. I can't take my eyes off of him. His grey, v-neck shirt fits his torso snug, his dark-washed jeans lay loose on his waist. He was mentioning a football game over the phone, but the rest of the conversation faded it out as he walked away. He took the phone away from his head, and ended the call. He turned on his heels and met my eyes as he walked back in my direction. He extended his arm out handing my phone back to me. Our hands ran across one another during the exchange. The heat gave me butterflies.

"Thank you," he said his gaze lingering on me until he directed his attention to his friend, "I can stay for the football game."

"Awesome! We are playing Gulfport High, so it should be a good game," they agreed together.

The tall tan boy turned to me and started an interrogation. "You're new, I know a lot of people, and I don't know you." He looked at the freckled, green eyed boy, and gestured to me "Do you know her?" The green eyed boy simply shook his head in response.  "What's your name?" he asked curiously.

"Lilly Adams, I moved to this school district last year, I'm a junior unfortunately." The event that made me leave my home town, move two towns over, and leave everyone that I grew up with. Start of my high school experienced got ripped from me. Now I just do what I need to, to get the hell out of here.

"I'm Gary," said the tall, tan boy, "and this is Shawn," he said motioning to the freckled, green eyed boy.

Autumn finally showed up after maybe 30 minutes of me standing there waiting. Autumn Newman, she had dyed her chestnut hair a dark purple and was always dressed in professional business attire. She was considered one of the most influential people, and was one of the top real estate agents on the coast. She was always busy, but still manages to raise 5 kids. Autumn was my adoptive mom, and I had been with her a year so far. She was okay even an angel sometimes that I don't deserve, but she had a problem with control. The control put a barrier between us. She jumped out of her Buick and walked towards the passenger side. I said goodbye to Gary and Shawn, and got in the drivers side. I moved my seat to adjust to my height, and ignored Autumn's gaze the whole time.

I hauled my book bag on top of my pink and purple striped blanket comforter, and turned on my flat screen television and PS3. The speakers began to sing The Fray as I began my math homework. I was 10 questions in when I decided to face time Angel. Angel was exactly her name, pure of heart. She had flaming red hair and freckles for days. She answered on the second ring.

"Hey Lilly Mae!" she screeched. I kind of expected her to do that whenever she is excited she always screeches.

"Hey Angel, does the name Shawn ring any bells to you?" I asked if anyone knew anyone Angel did. She was vice president of the yearbook, and was a board leader of every club she was in.

"Shawn...? Last name,"

"I didn't catch his last name, he looked like a Sophomore. He was maybe 5"8, had brown shaggy hair and green ey-," I didn't even get to finish my sentence before Angel yelped again.

"YOU ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT SHAWN MACELMORE ARE YOU!?" she screamed through the phone.

"I don't know, that is why I am asking you crazy girl," I said as I started to laugh.

"EWW do not, he is literally 15 years old, and he used to play in the front yard with Jacob like all the time," she said. Jacob was her kid brother, that was now 12 years old. She must be reading my mind because I was more than interested. She knew how I got whenever I set my mind on something.

"I won't do anything, I'm just trying to have some fun," I retorted back defensively.

"Yea, ok Lilly let me know every detail, you slut I got to go little brother needs to be taken somewhere big surprise," she finished as I began to laugh.

"Oh whatever," I said between laughs and hung up. So Macelmore was the last name. I thought for a moment as I began to look him up on Instagram and Facebook. I found his profile rather fast, but you could tell he never got on because his most recent was months ago. We wouldn't have any classes together because I'm in junior classes, but I still hoped I would be seeing him more often.

First things first I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for choosing Sunflower Landing to read. I am incredibly honored. This is the first book I have decided to write and publish, so with that being said bear with me. If there is any errors that is because there is a glitch that will not let me edit it to save my life. If you enjoy the story please show some love, it really does help motivate me! Thank you with all my heart
