-Ezekiel opened his screen door, the sun blinding him a little as he searched around for his mother to find her working in her garden. He walked over towards her, kneeling down beside her.
"Good Afternoon mama." I wrapped my arms around my mother's neck.
"Good Afternoon Ezekiel." My mother smiled, giving me a kiss on the cheek. "How did you sleep?"
"I slept better than last night, I know that for sure." I responded. "I'm about to head out mama."
"That's good, that's good." My mother slid off her dirty gloves." Get home safe."
I kissed my mother on the cheek, before lifting up from the ground and heading towards the direction of my truck.
-
Finally making it to my destination. I leaned up against my car, patiently waiting for my brother to come outside.
My brother slowly walked through the gates, spotting me leaned up against my car. We stared at eachother for awhile before I pulled him into a tight hug.
"I see you didn't forget how to get here." My brother pulled away from the hug, smiling abit.
"Nigga, I done drove down this road about four times already." I joked.
"Well, four times is a charm."
"I thought it was three." I answered.
"Man, you know niggas in the ward can't count." Jalen playfully mentioned.
"You better count your blessings, cause' once again mama is letting your little ass come back home." I pointed at him, bringing him into a hug once again. "Come on, lets get you home."
I unlocked the car doors, slowing sitting down.
"You want to listen to the radio?" I asked, starting up the car engine and adjusting my mirrors.
Jalen nodded his head in agreement, turning on the car radio.
I pulled out of the driveway and onto the long-winding road that was ahead of us. "Was it rough in there?"
"Somedays but other days it was actually alright." Jalen answered. "I know, I missed being home though and I'm glad to be out that place. It wasn't the same in there, as long as you stayed to yourself than nothing happened and that's what I did."
"I'm glad you're home little brother." I playfully punched his arm. "It was quiet around the house without you being there."
Jalen and I were really close when we were younger and It was always my duty to protect him and make sure he stayed on the right track but there were somethings that I couldn't control.
