I hate this part paper hearts
And I'll hold a piece of yours
Don't think I would just forget about it
Hoping that you won't forget about it...****
Staring at the polaroid that the girl had in her hand, her thumb brushed upon the rowdy American's grinning face, his hand on his hip and the other in a 'thumbs-up' position. The ocean behind him was as blue as his sparkling azure eyes, which shone excitement as the photo had been taken. She remembered the time that she had taken this picture-it was at least two weeks ago, two weeks before.. he had broken the news to her.
A tear had unknowingly slid down her cheek.
----
"C'mon, why won't you smile?" Alfred was puzzled. They've been together for a few months now, yet his dearest has rarely shown a true smile.
".. what's there to smile about?" The girl's head tilted quizzically. Her cool facade confused him before, but somehow, he had made his way into her heart, and she hated what he made her feel. Yet, she slowly embraced it, made it grow, and.. so far, it's been great, together with Alfred. She can no longer imagine a future without him.
The blonde blinked. He then threw his head back, letting out his usually rowdy laughter. "You'll forever be my puzzle, (y/n)," his blue eyes sparkled as he took her hand to his. Smiling, he then wrapped his arms around the woman, resting his head on hers.
"I love you," he whispers. (Y/n) couldn't resist the smile that was making its way to her lips, hugging him back. "I love you too," her tone was soft, sincere.
----
"The water's nice, (y/n)! Why won't you join me?" Alfred's lips were set in a pout as he waded in the shallow sea water. He had taken the both of them to a surprise trip for their one-year anniversary, but it seemed the cool (y/n) wasn't taking it quite well as he had hoped.
She only stared at the water, unblinking. (Y/n) tried to make it look like she wasn't interested with the water, maybe to annoy Alfred a bit.. until he takes a hold of her foot, practically pulling her into the water. Shrieking with laughter, she tries (and fails) to get out of his grip, her cool facade slipping away.
"You're too serious, babe!" Alfred grins, splashing water on his gal-his gal, the love of his life.. he liked the sound of that. "Let loose, shake things up a little!"
The girl stares at him with a deadpanned expression, before tossing him a handful of sand on his face. She laughs.
"Aw! Blegh! Ew, no fair!"
----
More tears fell from her cheeks as she ran through the scrapbook, their scrapbook, scanning the photos..
"Alfred, why did you have to leave," she whispers as her deft fingers ran through the pages. "You bastard, why did you have to leave.."
----
"(Y/n), look, I.. loved every second we spent together, but," fear was burning in his once sparkling blue crystalline eyes, scared that he was going to lose her, but he.. has to. What he was doing was wrong. It was painful to leave (y/n) like this, but he thought it was better to leave her so that he would save her a great deal of pain. He was a country, he was immortal, he was going to outlive her.. he'd see her die, how she would end.. and it haunted hin. He knew he shouldn't have gotten close.
"Alfred, what are you saying? Are you breaking up with me?" (Y/n)'s eyes had begun tearing up as she bites her lip. What was this supposed to mean? It was almost like her world was tearing to pieces, this can't be happening.
"Y-yes, I guess I am. I'm sorry, really, but I'll always love you, I'll always remember you, I will always cherish the moments we've had.."
The girl's eyes widened, but then her face became emotionless, her expression blank. Her face hardened. No more of this bullshit, she thought. She just wanted to leave. Cry all of this later. ".. fine then." She turns away without a single word.
Alfred's broke down, falling to his knees, weeping as he watched her retreating figure in the distance.
----
'I'll always love you.'
The note was weeks old, stuck on the refrigerator's metal door. (Y/n) stares at it, she kept on telling herself that she was going to get over him, but those thoughts only made her miserable. The pictures all over the table.. it made her cry even more.
"Damn you, Alfred.. I love you too, so much, it hurts.. I miss you everyday." She laughs dryly, but her laughter was empty.
Just like her heart.
Fragile.
Like paper.
Torn.
