It was more or less a peaceful day it the Nagoya University Agriculture Department, that is, before a crash and roar of a certain student broke the blissful calm—which wasn't surprising.
In a lab, through only winding hallways could you find it from the main entrance, were four students. One senpai, and three [i]terrified kohais.
At the sound of their Senpai's sudden outburst of anger, the kohais had nearly jumped out of their skins as their heads whipped around to face the fuming human.
One—Mika—tentatively asked, "Are you okay, Senpai?"
The senpai—Tatsumi—with predator like slowness, turned to face the shaking girl, his usual amber eyes nearly glowed red with anger. He opened his mouth to respond, but decided against it, slowly turning back to the shattered glass—which, thankfully, hadn't been from an experiment, nor had it come from a kohai; had it been from a kohai, one of them would have already been on the floor bleeding.
Before Tatsumi were broken shards of glass, flimsy leather, and broken hands of the watch he had—just moments ago—been wearing, before it had managed to undo itself, fall to the floor, and land right beneath Tatsumi's shoe.
The Tyrant—as he had been come to know in the agricultural department—grumbled a steady flow of curses as he swept up the pieces of his watch and disposed of it.
He had [i]just recently purchased the watch to better help himself keep time, and to not over work, and was overly pissed that it had not even been a week before it had started to malfunction.
Tatsumi barked at his eldest kohai—Morinaga—to oversee the others while he went out to blow off steam.
Morinaga did as he was told.
"Geez," sighed Tadokoro, the other male lab assistant, "He's been all cranky since buying that watch. I don't understand how you could handled all of Tatsumi's outburst for this long, Morinaga-san." Tadokoro said in near awe.
"Senpai is, at heart, a kind person, but its buried beneath many layers." Morinaga admitted.
"I just hope he doesn't take his frustration out on us." Mika said, a shiver visibly running down her spine.
"He's not the kind to do that, Mika-san," Morinaga responded,"but until he's cooled off a bit, lets focus on the experiments."
The other kohai's did not argue and focused their energy on the experiments at hand—though they were still rattled by the end of the day rolled around.❖
Later that night, Tatsumi was still mad as all hell that his watch had broken, and his foul mood had not eased in the slightest when he and Morinaga arrived back at their apartment.
"Shall I fix us some dinner, Senpai? Or shall I order out?"
Tatsumi's response was a measly grumble as he stalked all the way to his room.
Morinaga had experienced these moods well enough to know that he was going to be eating alone tonight.
Though, his Senpai's frustration had given him an idea... And he prayed to god that Tatsumi would like it.❖
The following week, a small package had arrived for Morinaga, although it was really for Tatsumi, and he had wrapped it up neatly in brown wrapping paper and had decorated it with white string that was tied up in a fancy bow.
He stuffed it in with his backpack as he and Tatsumi left their apartment for the university, and his heart nearly bounded out of his chest as he wondered how his Senpai would react, and if he would like it at all.
Thankfully, Tatsumi had not noticed the spring in Morinaga's step as they found themselves early, and alone, in the lab.
Morinaga fished out the nicely wrapped package.
"Umm, Senpai?" The kohai tapped his Senpai's shoulder while he was putting on his lab coat.
"What?"
The younger man extended his hands, clutching each side of the box.
"Here."❖
Tatsumi stared down warily at the box being handed to him. He had been given a present before by Morinaga which, he had then soon learned that it was to remind him of something unpleasant.
Tentatively accepting the beautifully wrapped package, Tatsumi asked, "What is this?"
"I guess you'll have to find out," his kohai said nervously.
Setting it down on a table, he tugged at one the the loose strings to unravel the bow, carefully unstuck the paper, and pulled out the box. Opening the it, Tatsumi saw something, he admittedly thought, was elegant.
Inside laid delicately was a Vincero watch.
The case was fierce gold but the face inside was a delicate, yet simple, white with rose gold Roman-numerals and white gold hands. And the band was excellently crafted of genuine leather, but made to look as if it had already been through some wear and tear.
It was certainly an upgrade from his old watch, but Tatsumi liked it well. It was new accessory to the older man's attire. Something easily made and not overly expensive.
He picked up the watch carefully to admire it more, turning it over to the back. The back, he soon saw, had been engraved and it read, 'May it last a lifetime. -Morinaga.'
"Morinaga, this, this is just what I needed, thank you." Tatsumi said in earnest.
Morinaga smiled, relieved. "You're very welcome, Senpai. I was worried you wouldn't like it."
"Nonsense. Its not over the top, nor is it overly expensive, yet it is made very well. Like I said, I was just what I needed." He said, putting it on right as the other kohai's entered and exchanged greetings.
Tatsumi was happy and grateful.———
(A/N) This is another one-shot I'm gonna have to come back to when I'm not as tired, and complete editing this and add some more to it. Hope you enjoyed.
