Parrotfish; A Poem For Transgender Day Of Remembrance

"The gender you were born will always stay the same"
Tell that to the parrot fish, once male, now female without shame.
"It's unnatural, its against science and god"
Tell that to the clown fish who isn't a fraud.
"I will always see you as one of the girls"
Tell that to the reed frog, now a diamond among pearls.
"DNA and chromosomes define your gender"
Tell that to the lioness who has a mane and isn't so slender.
We transgender are all around,
Look close enough and we can be found,
Those public bathrooms you're scared to go in,
There are trans people there through the walls so thin,
We're all around causing no harm at all,
All we want is the freedom to stand tall.
So when you see us and feel the need,
To beat us, kill us, watch us bleed,
As the crimson spreads out, pooling the cobbles below,
Take a step back and look at the seeds that you sew,
The world you're showing to the children you raise,
In their mind remebered, the hatred now stays.
So teach love, not hate, to the people you know,
Then step back and watch as we flourish and grow.
