If I Could

If I could simply walk away,     Leaving only my waft and our       memories behind;
Then I would have been miles away now.

If I could turn back the tide then you would be mine now.
If I could shed my pride and strip naked,
Then I would apologize to you for a lifetime of mistakes;
If I could do so, love, then you would see the scars on me.

If I could just drop the smile and the pretence,
You would see the pain searing through my heart.
If I could only tell you that life is simply not worth living without you,
Would then you fight for me.

Maybe if I could do all these and more you would hold my hand again,
Maybe you would love me again,
Maybe, maybe and maybe.

But, beloved, I cannot.
Thus, I choose to stand back and let you go.
