Layla's POV

I scanned my desk, pushing hair behind my ears. The bun on my head was falling out, my button up shirt wasn't buttoned right, and my shoes were in my hand. I walked to my car after locking the office and headed home. Working all night and not getting home until 7:02am was garbage but doing all the paper work for a band's budget on their tour was important. I went in my house, setting my things down. I hung up my jacket and walked into the kitchen. Ricky had coffee brewing. I half smiled. I missed sleeping next to him at night. I went over to the counter, leaning down to look at myself in the reflection of the toaster. I pulled my hair down, rustling it. I heard noises coming from upstairs and I jogged up the steps. I saw our cat, Dexter, asleep in front of the bathroom door.

"Ricky must be in there," I whispered to the empty hall. I walked slowly, seeing the door open. I saw Ricky standing at the sink with our daughter standing on the sink. She had her small arms crossed. He ran a brush through her dark brown hair.

"Your hair is just like your mommy's," Ricky said.

"I miss mommy," she said.

"So do I, Emily," Ricky said, setting the brush down and beginning to French braid her hair. He sighed. "Mommy's super busy. We have to stay strong and happy!" He added. She turned and faced him.

"Dad! It's alright. Don't be sad," she said hugging him. He hugged back.

"Sorry," he said lowly. I hadn't been home at night for about three months. I slept during the day and went back to do more paper work at 7pm. Ricky got back from band practice at 8 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The other day's, Emily had ballet. I almost never saw them. Emily had on little black skinny jeans, a tiny black shirt with Motionless In White on it, and black socks. I wiped away a tear. Ricky finished her hair, sighing again.

"Remember what we talked about dad," Emily said.

"I know, I know. Frowning will give me wrinkles," he said rolling his eyes. I chuckled and they both looked at me.

"Mommy!"

"Baby!" Ricky said. I laughed. I hugged him tight, then pulled away and hugged Emily. She kissed my cheek.

"Dad did a nice job on your hair! You look cute," I said. She rolled her eyes.

"He's alright," she said.

"Hey!" He said. She laughed and I put her on the ground. She hugged me again.

"Let's go make breakfast dad. Mommy has to go to bed," she said sadly.

"Actually I was gonna stay up with you two," I said. A huge smile came across her face.

"Yay!!! Let's go make food!" She said, running downstairs. Ricky pushed his lips to mine. We moved them together for a few seconds. We pulled away, and he kissed my cheek.

"I'm sorry I'm never home," I whispered.

"I just miss you babe," he whispered back.

"I love you so much," I whispered in return.

"I love you more," he whispered with a smile.

"Why are we whispering?" Emily's voice rang in the bathroom. Me and Ricky both laughed.

"Let's go kid!" Ricky said, scooping her up. She laughed and we all went down to eat breakfast.
