Prompt: "Looking for Carolyn that worked at Walmart – m4w". (I changed stuff about that btw)
Well It started with a Walmart bakery and a birthday cake. My youngest sister needed a birthday cake she was turning 12. I was flipping through the catalog Walmart had for cakes I heard the prettiest voice every word said was almost like honey pouring out of her mouth. It wasn't long lasting though as for the sentence was short "Have you found something you like?". "No, not exactly. I'm looking for something a 12-year-old girl would like" Speaking to this woman was hard I had looked back down at the catalog flipping through it not wanting to meet her ocean blue eyes. "Well, my names Carolyn and do you need help?" Every word melted me I could listen hours and hours on end. "I would love help" I had said with a slight nervousness behind my words, and I just couldn't be happier that I had come here tonight instead of my mother. She was standing beside me now "hmm if I were 12 I would like" Her hand interlocked with mine, and she picked it up. She had flipped the page and showed me the picture cake. "Be sweet put a picture of baby her on here" She smiled up at me finishing her sentence. My heart was pounding, and all I could do was nod.
It was time for me to pick up the cake but I haven't been able to move from the spot I was standing in. She's been on my mind since I last been here Carolyn Carolyn Carolyn my brain would chant. Carolyn was kneading bread, and although working with the hair net, she made it look beautiful. I had taken a deep breath and walked up to the counter smiling. "Hi Carolyn" My voice would crack, and she looked up smiling while I turned bright red. "That was cute are you ready to pick up your cake?". She called me cute my heart was thudding. I nodded my head not wanting to mess this up anymore. "Just let me finish this, and I will be right with you okay?" she had gone back to kneading the bread. "Okay, how have you been?" I asked slowly making sure my voice didn't crack. "Well Just tired from work and people" She had gone and put the bread in the oven then shortly after pulled off her gloves. "That sucks" I had said Carolyn just turned and smiled at me. "It's how I make my living I got to start somewhere." I didn't have the chance to respond before she started talking again "now that cake" she went to the fridge pulling the cake out handing it to me. "Now! You can go pay for that tell your sister happy birthday" She had said.
I wanted to see Carolyn again, so I had headed to the Walmart bakery. She wasn't there I had waited an hour. I had headed home defeated and slightly sad. I opened my laptop, and It had ended with a Craigslist missed connections "Looking for Carolyn that worked at Walmart – w4w".
