I have been waiting all week for the carnival to come into town! Lilly and I are getting ready at my house before we are picked up by Aaron and his friend Chess, who has had a thing for Lilly since the 8th grade.
Lilly is a very smart girl, but somehow she is clueless when it comes to boys. I don't want to be the one to push them together because of fate and all, but I always try and drop hints that he likes her, and nothing seems to get through to her! We decided to match each other by wearing the same style clothes in different colors. I chose green to match my eyes, and Lilly chose pink to go with her personality. We pulled up in Aaron's 2004 Jeep Cherokee and walked into the grounds. There were colorful lights and sounds coming from the carnival, and I could already smell the mouth watering funnel cakes that were calling my name. We bought enough tickets for us to play a few games and ride all of the rides, and then ran through the gates to start the fun.
The first thing Lilly wanted to do was go into the mirror maze with me. I agreed and paid the man my ticket to head inside. Lilly was long gone into the maze, but I liked to take my time through these so that I can enjoy the moments of peace while I found my way through the mirrors of deception. I kept feeling like I was being followed by someone, but I was probably overthinking because everywhere I turned, I saw myself staring back at me.
My dreams must have gotten to my head again. Why else would I be this stressed?
Every little creak that I heard made my senses spike, and the hairs on my neck were at a stand still. I almost screamed in terror when a little boy ran past me. He was laughing hard because he ran away from his mom who was fast on his trail.Ever since the conversation with Fynn in the woods, he hasn't been in my dreams. I keep walking around the forest looking for clues to figure him out, but when I start to hear strange and eery sounds, I run out of the woods to safety. What was wrong with me? These are only dreams. But, they are my second life that I live and I can't get away from them.
Lilly soon found me and practically pulled me out of the maze to go ride something called the scat. It was a bad decision on my part because it went around and around, flipping me upside down and throwing me until I wanted to puke. Aaron was riding beside me and squeezed my hand so that I wouldn't fly out of the death contraption they called a ride. I bet $5 that at least one person will be too tiny for the rope to hold them to the seat, so they will actually fly out and land on the bouncy house next to us.
It was getting to be around sunset when we finished our funnel cakes and half of the rides at the carnival. Aaron pulled me to the Ferris wheel with Lilly and Chess on our heels. This was always a cute gesture for Aaron, but I didn't have the nerves to tell him that I was afraid of Ferris wheels. How many people get stuck on these things? Everyone! I can climb a tree to get a nice view, I don't need a rocking, moving wheel to show me a sunset.Unfortunately I rode it anyway and of course got stuck near the top of the ride. I gazed out at the hills and vast forest lining, where the sun was setting to portray the beautiful oranges and pinks of the night. I love sunsets. It is the most peaceful and charming time of the day.
I turned my view to Aaron who was looking at me with a soft smile on his face. He leaned in to kiss me, and gave a soft peck on my lips. He has always been a gentleman to me and I am thankful for it. I am not one to take things fast like other girls my age. I am in no hurry to have children if you know what I mean.We all made it safely to the ground when I noticed something odd happening in the middle of the grounds. There were two oddly familiar people arguing with what looked to be the manager or something of the carnival. We were too far away to hear or see what was going on, but I could tell they were shouting at one another. We started to gravitate towards the scene, but when I was able to make out the person's face who was screaming the most, he looked me right in the eyes and ran off.
I don't know if I can trust my own eyes anymore. What I saw could only be handled by putting me in a mental institution for visions clouding my reality. I know I didn't see him. It couldn't have been him.
He doesn't exist! He is apart of my subconscious that tries to relay messages to me while I'm asleep. But who else has the lightest blonde hair with little waves surrounding his face? Who else has the most brilliant golden eyes that can pierce through your heart and stay there forever? No one that I know in this tiny town. No one except from my dreams.
My Fynn.
