        Derek

Derek adjusted his watch and sat quietly alone in his meeting room. After this meeting he could finally go home and visit his sister and her children, being some normal citizen driving a country truck when no paparazzi would ever notice.

Derek loved this, spending time with her sister peacefully in the countryside. Even though after these years Laura had asked him to quit his city job and come live with her, but it wasn't his fault good at his business and couldn't drop his company. He's only twenty seven after all, too young and too successful. He wouldn't admit to his sister his sweet victory and fame in the city were the reasons keep him working, and he was just too good at his job.

And maybe, he still enjoyed being a millionaire.

He tapped on his desk when a young man rushed in. "He's here, Mr. Hale," The woman working at the desk, Kate, smiled smugly and over sweetly and Derek. Her hair was purposely tied loosely and set down her shoulders. Her high heels clacked as she held the door for the man.

"Thank you, Miss. Argent." Derek nodded at her as she started to close the door.

Derek let out a joyful sigh and turned to the man who wished to set a deal with him. "Now, gladly we can start, Mr. Boyd." He smiled to himself as the man settled himself in one of the chairs and pulled out his document. "Shall we?"

It was late at night when the deal was done, and Derek returned to his office with an exhausted sigh. From his office he could view the city, now dark, with all the lights and busy cars. The moon was bright in the sky, despite all the neon lights on the buildings. Derek let out an uneasy sigh. Full moon was near, and he didn't bother to rush back to the countryside. He needed the woods for the heat, and the city is too crowded even in his gigantic apartment. And too noisy, he thought.

He always told Laura soon he would have a pack but over two years now, he's still a lone Alpha. He simply decided not to have a pack in the city, and not when he's running his rich company. Sometimes new dealers and workers from other company had werewolves, and they sense his scent. Some of them treated him with more respect, some other alphas did not care that much.

"Mr. Hale?" there was a faint knock on the door broke his tiny peaceful silence. Derek didn't realize he was so focus that he didn't even hear Kate coming in with coffee in her hands. "I thought you were working late, so..." she did her warm smile again, and Derek tried not to frown. He didn't run the interview with her and hired her, his managers did, and he hoped he'll soon talk to Erica about it. This Kate has some attitude made him question her ability in the front desk. He slightly frowned and nodded, gesturing the desk.

Kate clacked her high heels toward his desk and set down the coffee, Derek almost winced at the loud, painful sound her high heels were making. Derek heard her fidgeted a little and didn't leave, so he turned and picked up the mug. "What's wrong, Miss Argent?"

"Mr. Hale, I was wondering..." she twisted her hair a little and let out a sly smile, not purposely, for it was meant to be warm, it's just Derek could see what she was trying to do.

"Yes?" His voice was cold and formal. He sipped a little on his coffee, and the pleasant feeling shuddered downed his spine, relaxing all his muscles.

"I was wondering if you will join dinner with me?" She asked.

Derek stared at her, not surprised. He set down his mug and went around his desk, having Kate took a few steps back, close to panic. "Miss. Argent, this is a work place, worse, this is my work place. Asking your boss to date is not appropriate in my office. I believe your place belong to the front desk, and after I talked to you manager, we'll see about your situation." Derek leaned on his desk and crossed his arms. "Thank you for your coffee, it's late and you should go home."

Kate never looked so miserable, Derek almost feeling sorry for her as she walked out the floor. She's not the first in his company dare to ask him for a date. He wasn't rude but he didn't want anyone that had come to him, and he didn't see anyone he wanted. All he had ever had was in his high school young love, Paige, after her death he never loved another. He was sure he was gay, he just happened to love that girl stupidly when he was that young.

Some werewolves in his company come to ask to join his pack, some come to ask to mate with him, but he never wanted to. Derek wanted his mate, his only mate, and he wanted to wait for him. That kept him focused a whole lot on his work.

Stiles

"Sorry dude, your dad demands it," Scott didn't look sorry but smug, and Stiles narrowed his eyes and restrained his strength not to punch him. He didn't make a worse police officer than his werewolf friend.

"My life was just getting on track and all interesting," he complained, "I did enormously well on the last case."

"That's why it's my turn. Me and Isaac, my dear partner, we are gonna solve this case..." Scott sang.

"I'm not doing your crappy job for you," Stile hissed, "I don't deserve doing this shit, I'm an officer!"

"Then you don't get paid then," Scott hummed, "or you go argue with your dad, for god sake in your situation, you're the only one that can argue with the boss," He smirked.

Stiles rolled his eyes. "We were supposed to switch position but your position wasn't a traffic dude!" He grabbed a cup from his desk violently and walked toward the coffee machine. "Did you forget what we did in high school? That's why we're here. To do all the exciting and fun stuff legally."

"Stiles, it's just one case, shut up about it and go to your traffic patrol work." Scott waved at him.

"It starts tomorrow, jerk," Stiles pushed his best friend with no heat. He remembered when they were in high school Stiles often went through his dad's files and found something interesting, and then he and Scott just set out and went for it. They often just enjoyed the feeling of breaking the rules but after they actually solve the first crime, they went wild for this and his dad even secretly approved.

Stiles smiled at himself, thinking that even after his high school, he's very happy he's still in Beacon Hills with his family and friends, while doing a job he loved. He never thought there will be one day like this, and the thought warmed up his body (or it could be the coffee). He started on his paper work, suppressing a yawn.

***

"How was your day, son?" John sat in the kitchen with newspaper in his hands. Stiles sometimes wondered how many years more will make him do the same thing.

"You've seen it all, boss," Stiles said half-jokingly with bitterness.

"Stiles, you were too thrilled on cases, you need to rest. Trust me, you've seen me for your whole life, continuous case is not healthy, boy." He flipped the pages and set down the papers, standing up and moved toward the living room. Stiles sat with him in a chair, and his dad took off his glasses. "Calm down for a while and enjoy the beautiful and peaceful neighborhood, will you?"

Stiles opened his mouth and argued, but his dad had done so much for him, thinking of his situation and all that, his body had a warm feeling for it. He didn't said anything for the moment and made his pout disappeared. "I understand, dad. Thank you for doing this to me, I love you."

"I love you too son, and I'm proud of you. Anyway, it's time for you to know some new cute neighbors."

"Dad, you knew I'm gonna end up in the highway exit to check the speeding. Maybe I'll chase down some fast cars, I haven't had a good ride lately," Stiles smiled smugly to himself. "I love my job," He told himself as he went upstairs. He's not really interested in getting fat by some old grandma's cookies. He hoped something thrilling can happen tomorrow, even for traffic deal.
