Everyone had their own partner destined for them. We were given the ability to distinguish and recognize our significant other from the billions of people in the world through a faint, melodious chime when we come in contact with who we are destined to be with.
I experienced it for the first time.
On a bright, sunny day I was walking my dog at the local park. She loved taking strolls beside the pond, sniffing anything and everything in the way. I stopped by an oak tree to tie my shoelaces and was about to stand and stroll for another round.
But then I heard it.
A faint melody ringing in my ears, in tune with the beating of my heart. It was long enough for me to notice and recognize what it meant.
I am finally meeting him.
Slowly, as if savoring the moment, I looked up at him. A smile slowly forming on my lips as I memorized his face, etching every feature in my mind. He smiled back at me and it was so dazzling that I felt a warm glow from within inch by inch engulf me. If this was what love feels like, I hoped it never ends.
But it did.
It didn't last long. Because when he smiled that breathtaking smile I instantly fell for, he handed me my dog's leash and left.
He never heard the chimes.
