This was the third time of the day that I was about to die. I was doing great. The wyvern charged at us billowing fire out of its huge mouth. I lept out of the way and landed on one knee. As I rummaged through my daypack, the phoenix shot a fireball towards the wyvern scorching its face. I threw my pack aside and threw my knife at the wyvern. My knife flew with deadly accuracy. It hit its mark. The wyvern was about to bite the phoenix in half when it got a mouthful of steel. It screamed in pain clawing its throat. The phoenix slipped under the wyverns huge claws and flew towards me. Together we ran and screamed. (More like I ran and screamed and the phoenix screeched and flew. But you get the point.) I ran as fast as could through the trees, their thick branches scraping my skin, and I kept running until I thought my lungs would burst. A thick tree root tripped me and I stumbled and fell face first into the mud, my nostrils inflating like air sacs. I rolled over and stared at the sky. The sky was now hued in blues and yellows, a sign of morning.

"Well at least we're alive." I said.

The phoenix screeched as if, for once, it agreed with me.

"EEEEEEEE!" The phoenix screeched again as if trying to tell me something.

"Huh?" I didn't see anything.

How could you be so clueless?!

I blinked. This was just like before. It seemed like the phoenix was talking.

"Can you... talk?" I gulped.

Of course I can! How dumb are you?

I just blinked again.

Now as I was saying, look up.

I looked Up and the next thing I saw made me jump.

It was the temple.

We were there.

The temple was in ruins like everything else in the city. One of the four marble pillars was cracked and the roof was caved in. everything was covered in moss or vines, but not like the vines that attacked me. These vines were light green laced with delicate purple flowers on it. A wisteria vine. I climbed over the fallen pillar and entered the temple.

Inside the temple was dark, like a cave due to the collapsed roof. I walked all the way up to the altar and inserted the red gemstone into the strange stone statue. A rumbling started and everything started to levitate. A blast of white light filled the air. When the light cleared everything was back to normal. The pillar was standing again, the roof was no longer collapsed and the moss was gone. And standing before me was a flickering image of a teenage boy.

"Wassup? I'm Draco one of the five spirit guardians. How may I help you?"

After we told him our situation he was glad to help. As we sat down, he offered us some scones.

"Wait. You did kill the monster, right?" He asked.

"You mean the wyvern? Yeah." I answered, taking a small nibble of my scone.

"What wyvern? I don't know any wyvern. I mean the eater of the world's!"

""

With scales as dark as midnight and a huge gleaming maw instead of a face. It's teeth dripping with blood. Draco and I were paralyzed as 20 tons of sheer terror slithered toward us.

"You know what Draco?" I squeaked. "Maybe now isn't the time for scones."
