I shuffle through the room clearing empty trays, discretely tidying up, and wordlessly distributing hors d'oeuvres. I nod at polite "thank you"'s and smile shyly as I offer them the perfectly arranged delicacies I carry on my polished, silver tray. The music is light and blended into the background perfectly, the lights soft on the eyes, and the room grande to accommodate the many pack representatives who have come to play games to win favor in the eyes of our Alpha. But of course I mind my business....

Events like these pay my bills. I work to put bread on my table. Well, if I had a table.... These guests are high ranking members from other packs who have come to accompany their Alphas' and Lunas', not lowly, hard-working Omegas like myself. I scrimp for extra shifts prior to these events to do the odd jobs of cleaning chandeliers, polishing silver, and doing inventory of the bar.

As I am returning to the kitchen for a fresh tray the lights dim briefly, and the music fades away signaling for the crowds attention. I pause just outside the kitchen doors turning to face the front of the room alongside everyone else. Beta Dawson steps forward and receives a respectful inclination of heads from the group, before he begins to speak, "Welcome. You have journeyed from near and far, to be here tonight. I hope you all have found it worth while. Now, it is my honor to introduce your host, and our esteemed Alpha, Alpha Stone!"

As Alpha Stone crosses the threshold and hands are lifted in preparation of polite applause, the kitchen door swings open, hitting my side, splaying me and my crummy tray across the slick floor of the hall. All heads turned my way and the bodies encircling me gasped. Caught in my fit of shock, I make no move to get up. My blue eyes well up in fear shifting from face to face. My ears faintly pick up Alpha Stone's words, "Bring her". I stumble to my knees, slipping back onto the floor when I try to stand up in what is probably melted butter.

The crowd parts for Beta Dawson. I duck my head, my curls veiling my face. He grips my upper arms and lifts me off the floor effortlessly. I stare into the crowd, fear chilling me to the bone, and the crowd stares back equally scared for me. They are witnessing the cruelty of our pack first hand, and can do nothing if only to protect themselves and their own packs. My wrists are promptly pinned behind my back held by one strong hand. Beta Dawson presses my wrists into my back driving me forward back through the crowd to the door Alpha Stone had left vacant.

I swirled my head around looking for any sign of him, but it appeared that I was to be a matter dealt with alone. And somehow that scared me more than being the public example, for all the packs around me.

I trip over my own feet going up the couple steps to the door. Beta Dawson holds me up by my wrists and the other hand he now has placed on my left forearm, making me cringe as he bends my arms backwards. The doors to the grande hall are closed behind us as we clear the threshold and make our way down the hall. I can hear the music start back up and the crowd milling around once again, as if I had not just been the nights entertainment.

Though I do not imagine anyone wants to remember the omega with a death sentence.
