Azrael - The Angel of Death who is "forever writing in a large book and forever erasing what he writes: what he writes is the birth of man, what he erases is the name of the man at death."
Azrael is an angel and he grew tired of writing in a large book about the death and birth of man. He sometimes stares at the window and watch over a frail man on Earth. Occasionally he would go down to check how is he doing but the man couldn't see, feel or hear him. But he continously watches over him and is having doubts whether he would take his life or not.
One day while Azrael is wandering he saw the man vomitting blood and it seems that he is on the verge of death. He was so worried and confused. It's up to him now. He gasped at the thought of losing his source of entertainment. He went to heaven and think of ways to prevent his death. He asked the other Angel to help him but none of them can go against the Death Book. He decided to use all of his power to save him then he fell from Heaven to Earth.
He drop on the man's house and to his amaze the man is perfectly well now. He told the man that he is an Angel but didn't explained how he ends up there. The man is surprisingly not surpised. The man admitted that somehow he sensed that "something" or "someone" is watching him. He has broken wings that's why he can't go back to Heaven for the mean time but he is happy the man can see him. They became friends. The man wanted him to be by his side and so does he. They spend countless times together. Being with the man brings him so much happiness that he didn't noticed how many time have passed since then.
Time on Earth is too damn fast compared to Heaven and Azrael regained all of his powers. His wings healed and prosper. He starts doing the his never ending duty secretly. The man saw him and got mad. He lost all his reasoning and gone berserk resulting into a tragic incident. The man cut both his wings. The Angel knew he is a very lonely man so he understand what he's going through.
The human is ignorant to Azriel's feelings for him. The human is ignorant to the fact that the Angel's wings are their source of life and it's the only way for them to go back to heaven. There was a legend that if the Angel's wings is cut the angel will die in seven seconds but in Earth it's seven days.
The man is happy again at the thoughts that the angel will forever be his side. He shared his plans for the future. He failed to noticed that he is getting weaker. And six happy days have passed. The Angel is very ill. His golden hair is falling, his blue eyes can barely open, his pink lips black as well as his nails and he is very pale. That's when the human was astonished. He immediately asked what's wrong but the angel didn't replied. He has no energy to talk anymore. He then thought what happened for the past few days. He's the only one having fun. He's the only one talking. The Angel just keep on smiling ever since he cut his wings. He asked if that's the reason. The Angel gasped using every bit of his life to say "I'm glad we finally met!" and hug the man tight. He never wanted for the man to suffer. He wants him smiling happily. But he can't talk anymore. All he felt is the warm tears of the man he loves. On his final moment he thought "I didn't get the chance to say I love you and goodbye. He is not angry to the man who broke his wings in fact he was grateful that for the first he wants to live. He disappeared.
Five long years have passed since that tragic but happy memories happened. The man is back on his feet. He finally found his interest and that is painting. He starts painting the 'sky' because he believed that the Angel is there looking back at him. Maybe he does? Who knows. <3
