"Valeria! Are you even listening to me?"

I snap out of my day dream and put my focus back on my friend. "Sorry, what were you saying?"

She playfully glares at me and then begins her rant on how she is going to kill any human girl that looks at her mate. I just nod my head and smile, not really listening.

"And then she winked at him! Like who the fuck does she think she is?!"

"Language Arabella!" I hear my mom call out.

"Sorry Laurine" Arabella calls back, she grabs my arm and drags me outside. We start walking to the pack square, chatting about stupid things.

As we walk by our Alphas house a guard walks up and greets us.

"Ladies I need you to be on high alert. A Lycan has been spotted hanging outside the walls doing goddess knows what" he says before returning back to his post.

A Lycan? I haven't seen one in centuries. Why would it be showing up now?

"Maybe it's weak and needs shelter," I shrug my shoulders and continue walking. "Or maybe it's come to eat us all!" I turn towards Ara and see her making a somewhat scary face with her canines out.

"You know it's not funny to joke about that, right?" Her face drops and she nods before walking off.

Ever since the war it has been a sketchy topic to talk about Lycans hurting werewolves. I sigh and follow Ara.

If a Lycan was outside the walls shouldn't we all be preparing for an attack? It feels as if it's toying with us, waiting for the perfect time to pounce.

We walk into the corner cafe and sit down, ordering ourselves some sandwiches and soda.

"So, are you excited for the party tonight?" Ara looks up at me, taking a bite of her overly mustarded sandwich.

"Oh shit, I totally forgot that was tonight," I groan and slump into the seat. Pack parties were only to celebrate the people who found their mates, so unmated females or males such as myself always got super depressed.

Ara found her mate 2 years ago and they are happily married. "I think I'm just gonna stay home." She nods and goes back to eating.

I finish my sandwich and check my phone, I curse and stand up throwing my jacket on.

"My mom wants me home at 3 so we can do our family bonding time," I roll my eyes and salute her before walking out.

I put my headphones in and begin my walk home.

"Barefoot on the grass, listening to our Favorite song.." I quietly sing the song to myself, breathing in the afternoon air but there is something else. Something that smells of death and darkness.

I stop and pull my headphones out following the scent. It leads me into the woods, my heart starts racing as I get closer and closer but nothing could prepare me for what I saw.

Bodies. Hundreds of them. I gasp and cover my mouth slowly backing up dropping my bag on the ground. I turn around a break into a full on sprint towards the Alphas house.

I hear screams and cries out for help as I run through the town. I see people grabbing children and running towards the shelter.

"ARA!!" I call out frantically, turning my head side to side, trying to see through the chaos.

I look behind me and see a giant dark shadow from where I used to be. Bright red eyes staring straight back at me making my hearts stop.

I gasp out and push my legs to get to the Alpha faster.

I burst into the house calling out for his name only to be met with silence. Why did everyone stop? Knowing the beast is still out there, I run upstairs to the Alphas office only to be met with emptiness.

I use my mindlink to try and contact him instead.

Alpha, are you there? I wait but get no response so I try again. Alpha please respond! I sigh and look down. Hello my love. I gasp from the unfamiliar voice, blocking the mindlink so it can't track me.

I slam the office door shut and hide under the desk covering my mouth when I hear heavy breathing from downstairs.

I hear creaking from the stairs making me almost sob knowing it's the end.

I put my head down and close my eyes waiting for my death as the door is kicked down. I really hope my mom and sister made it out, they will see me in the afterlife.

"My love, don't be scared.."

Yessss I know it was such a short first chapter but I didn't really know how to start it.
