Chapter 1: Shakespeare
Aurora's POV
The rain patters on the roof, being rather relaxing and comforting, better than the silence I'm used to. It nearly drowns out the evanescent sound of the ticking clock.
Tick, tick, tick.
Second after second passing by.
The coffee maker manufactures the bubbling notes, filling the glass holder with the robust smelling black liquid. The sound of my breathing, the sound of the everlasting ticking of the clock, the coffee, the rain, it fills the air with a sweet harmony.
Noise.
A banging on the door startles me, making me jump.
The mellifluous moment slips away, breaking from the grasp of my feeble hand.
"Aurora open up!" A female voice pesters from the wooden barrier holding the person back. Glaring at the fading burgundy door, I head to it, turning the cool brass to unveil whom is bothering me.
Jaclyn stands in her blue raincoat, her brown hair wet and stringy.
"It's pouring out there!" She cries out. I let her in, watching as she sluggishly pulls her squeaky rain boots off her feet, hanging her wet coat up.
I remain silent as she shuts the door, turning to smile at me with her pearly white teeth.
"What's wrong with you? You seem a bit frigid today."
"Nothing," I reply, "the coffees finished." I say before the small timer dings in the kitchen, which is just next to the entrance.
"Well, are you going to offer me a cup?"
"You didn't ask, Lynn." I remind her.
Jaclyn, or 'Lynn' is my best friend, but she happen to catch me on a bitter day.
"Well, could I have a cup of coffee then, Rory?" She knows I hate that name.
Lynn follows me to the kitchen as I grab a purple mug from the covered.
"Don't call me that." I say, no daunting factor in my personality exists. I've always been small, smaller than any of my friends anyway.
Pouring the black drink into the mug, which tastes like pennies before any major reconstruction with creamer and sugar I hand her the hot mug.
Lynn likes plain black coffee, for whatever the reason.
"Well, I was wondering, instead of you being a homebody, how about we go see a movie or something?"
"There's nothing interesting in the cinema." I counter.
"Then how about that play? I mean, it's a bit pricey -especially for a play- but we could go."
"It seems a bit banal don't you think?"
"Oh get your knickers out of a bunch and live a little. Well, love as much as you can for a shitty play."
"Live a little?" I snort, walking to the den and plop onto the shabby couch, pulling a knit blanket over myself.
"Okay, it's not that rousing, nor is it appealing, but as you said, there is nothing good playing in the cinema."
"You're bland, and nor are you appealing." I say in an attempt to denigrate her.
"Oh hush up you milquetoast!" She sips the coffee in her hands.
"I'm not!" I try to barricade myself from her taunting strikes at my ego, which happens to be incredibly miniature.
"Than come with me." Lynn drags me right into her trap. "Come on Rory."
