I also came up with a theory
When the world gets destroyed by flooding when the sea levels rise (or nuclear war) wouldn't the world sort of go into a mid-life crisis and because there could be Co2 in the air it could cause volcanoes and land and stuff
And about a few hundred million years later you have another superior species destroying itself
And then it could happen again
