First Victim
It was 9 in the evening, the narrow dark alley towards her apartment always freaks her out, she’s walking home from the bus stop which is a block away from the entrance to this alley.
She works in a call center in Makati from 12:00-8:00 PM. Her boyfriend usually picks her up but tonight he said he has a family affair to attend to, she understood and told him not to worry about it she can take care of herself anyways, she said.
She took the bus and since it was late there was not too much traffic, she lives about 30 minutes away from Makati but she left the office right around 8:15 and waited til 8:30PM before the bus going to her destination arrived.
The bus wasn’t full, aside from her there was about 5 more passengers with her. She always occupied the 2- seater near the driver so she can easily get off the bus.
She hates that the alley doesn’t have enough lighting, not that she is afraid to walk in the dark- but these days you never know , the bad elements of society are everywhere.
She just walked faster than usual, her apartment is at the end of the alley. “Malapit na ako, hay salamat,” she said to herself.
She lives alone in a studio apartment her boyfriend is paying rent for. He is a lawyer she met in a bar one night she was with her friends.
She finally reached the door to her apartment and took her key out of her purse. She opened the door with it, and got inside. She was trying to close the door when someone pushed the door- she wasn’t able to say anything as she fell of the floor, the sound of the key dropping off the hard cemented floor of the apartment followed by a thud from her fall. She was hurt a little bit but fear registered in her eyes as she saw the shiny tip of a kitchen knife. Before she can scream for help, the knife entered her chest as the attacker held her shoulder firmly with the other hand.
Blood gushed out of her – the door was splattered all over with blood and before she understood what was happening to her, one final thrust of the knife struck deep into her chest severing it which caused her immediate death.
The shadow of the attacker moved swiftly and left a card – the red Ace of Hearts. He walked away from it all unnoticed – he took the knife and puts it in a plastic bag he brought with him and eased away from the scene before a witness can see him- he doubts it. Her apartment is at the end of the alley and all the other houses lights are off. He can’t take his chances though so he puts his hood on and hid the knife inside his body bag.
Victim Number 1- check. He crossed off her name on his list and kept walking until he was away from the apartment. He walked a couple of blocks more before going to the next bus stop.
That was his very first victim, he was just getting warmed up. If he succeeds which he just did, “Brace for more,” he said to himself and smiled wickedly.
