It was a snowy day, early in the morning, and Emilia was excited. She was on her way to her first day of kindergarten. She couldnt wait to make new friends, fidgeting in her carseat in the back of her fathers SUV in excitement. Passing swiftly past other cars on the street, and the car slowly comes to a stop, hearing the clicking of the blinkers of her fathers car, turning into a donut shop on a small corner. "Surprise!" her father said. They got out of the car, walking into the donut shop. Emilia's father orders black coffee, as usual, and Emilia orders the chocolate donut with the most amount of rainbow sprinkles on it. Her father pays the cashier, and they walk out and get back into the car.
Emilia practically inhales her chocolate donut, while her father sips on his coffee. They arive at her school, Her father kissing her on the forehead, while she walks out the car, and walks to her classroom.
Emilia walks down the long, quiet hallways of the elementary school, only hearing her footprints and the A/C vents. She continues walking, walking, walking, for what seems hours. She checks her little, cheap, hello-kitty watch and sees shes only been walking to her class for a minute. She gets a sudden feeling of drowsyness, and starts to feel dazed. She continues walking, with the feeling of her head spinning, but keeps walking to her class anyways. One of the ceiling lights flicker behind her, causing her to jump. She snaps out of her sudden feelings, and begin to walk faster. Behind her, she started to hear footsteps. They got louder, and faster. Sounding like running. Emilia kept walking, trying to ignore the sound of the heavy footsteps. Someone grabbed her shoulder and Emilia jerked herself around to look behind her. It was her neighbor. "Hey Emilia! You may not know me, but I'm your neighbor, Anna!" Emilia was pale from fear, but nodded. "Are you okay? You look pale." Said Anna to Emilia in a concerning voice. "Yes, i'm okay, im just not feeling well." Emilia said in a sweet, innocent voice. "Okay, well got to get to class! Cya Emilia!" Says Anna, walking away. Emilia got back on focus and continued following the path to her classroom. The moment she walked through the door of her class, she saw many new faces, and butterflies started to flutter in her stomach in nervousness. What if she didn't make any friends? What if they didn't like her or didn't want to play with her? The bell rang, and the teacher got up out of her desk, and stood infront of the class. She introduced herself as Ms. Woodrucks. They class began and they opened their books. They rest of the day was normal, excluding the past events of the hallway. Emilia was still a bit jumpy though. When school was over, it was snowing. Her father helped her into the car once again. She got home, did her chores, ate dinner, and went to bed. The next day at school, a blizzard started outside. It was far below zero degrees outside, and was even cold in the school. Emilia felt weird. Not as many children showed up to school that day, it felt odd. The power went out soon after the blizzard started and it got quiet. The teacher got up from her desk and told the students to remain in their desks and keep quiet while she goes to the office to ask them whats going on. As she left the classroom, the students waited a few moments before shuffling their chairs and desks next to eachother. The children started to chatter with one another quietly.
"
My sissy told me the mist was coming to our school today." Said a little boy, attempting to scare another little girl. The little girl looked frozen in fear, and started to cry. Emilia looked over at the boy and asked, "Whats the mist?" Emilia asked, concerned. The little boy turned to her. "What are you, stupid? Or did you just move here?" He said to Emilia.
"I-I just moved here." Emilia stuttered.
"Oh, I guess i better explain what it is then. 'The mist' is pretty much a stupid urban legend we tell eachother when it snows like this to try to scare eachother. It's supposed to be when the power goes out, strange mist fills the old abandoned hallways. The mist always takes their victims one, by one. With no evidence, like they vanished." The little boy explained.
"That sounds like it would be in a scary movie.." Emilia said.
"Yeah, it's just a stupid joke though, nothing to worry about." The boy said.
Emilia nodded gently. "I have to go to the bathroom. I'll be back." Emilia said as she got up to leave the bathroom.
Another kid stood up and shouted at Emilia, "The teacher said we aren't allowed to leave the class!" He whined obnoxiously.
"But, I-I have to go!" Emilia squealed. She got up from her seat and opened the door to the school hallway. It was dark, and cold. The air inside the hallway felt different from the classroom. It felt humid, and heavy. It was as if the classroom door was sealing the air inside the class, attempting to separate the hallway atmosphere from the classroom. The hallway creaked, Emilia could hardly breathe, due to the air's weight. She felt as if she was being suffocated. She walked quickly down the hallway, trying to locate the girls bathroom. Finnally, she approached the end of the hallway, and saw a door to her right, with a label next to doors saying "Girls Restroom". She walked through the doors and the atmosphere changed again. It was like a normal bathroom, but a little more colder than normal, due to the roaring blizzard outside. She looked in the mirror of the girls bathroom and what she saw was horrifying. It was Emilia as her normal self, but surrounded by a mist or heavy fog. The mist was so thick that you couldn't see the floor, if there was any. Suddenly, Emilia's hands in the reflection, started to rip at her own neck, using her sharp nails as blades. She ripped and rendered at her neck aggressively. Emilia punched the mirror as hard as she could, shattering it into fragments.
She looked down at her next, and it appeared to be normal. Her hands were clean, and had no trace of blood on them. She washed her hands with somewhat lukewarm water from the sink, just incase. She felt scared. Her own reflection wasn't mirroring her, as if they lived on their own. As if it wasn't just a reflection through glass. She finished up in the bathroom, and left quietly.
She was so scared that she held her breath, and jolted down the hallway, so she wouldn't have to breathe in the heavy air again. She arrived at her class, and no one was there. Had they forgotten about her and left home? Was the storm over? No, they couldn't have. Her neighbor would have looked for her, or asked someone where Emilia was. She looked at the clock on the wall and the time read "9:52 PM". She left around 4 pm. How long was she in the bathroom? She overthought every detail that crossed through her mind. She was scared. She wanted to go home, and have her Papa read her to sleep. She wanted to sleep.
Emilia began to feel drowsy and weak. She closed the door to her classroom and looked in the class next to her. No one. She closed the door behind her, and searched for any evidence of anyone being there recently, such as dropped pencils or pens on the floor, paper scraps, tissues in the trash, but there was nothing. Like no trace of anywhere being there for years. Like it was abandoned. The only strange thing, was that there was water drops on the windows, but on the inside. Like as if extreme humidity had occured in the room hours before. "What happened when I was gone?" Emilia muttered to herself. She heard a faint footstep in the hall, and a creak seconds after. She felt a cold shiver go down her arm, and her feet felt wet. She looked down, and there was fog. Everywhere. Emilia couldn't see the ground. Just like the reflection she saw in the mirror, and she was frozen in fear. She heard someones voice in the hallways, whispering from both directions. It was the boy, repeating his description of the mist, then her Papas voice overlapping that. They grew louder and louder, until Emilia let out such a loud scream enough to damage her tiny little vocal chords. She felt a sharp pain in her neck, like someone was scratching her neck repeatedly. She tried to hold her neck to try to see what was there, but there was nothing. The pain grew worse, and worse, like she was being sliced at the base of her neck. She screamed louder and louder as the pain grew stronger. Soon, she started to cough up blood. She passed out soon after that.

The man layed back in his lounge chair, and switched on the tv, to watch the news. What he heard formed a pool of tears in his eyes, and a gag in his throat.
News: Girl is found dead at local elementary school. Her face is unrecognizable due to minor cuts and her face turning blue due to suffocation. The only thing recognizable is her hair color and her clothing. She is wearing a pair of dusty-pink overalls, and a white longsleeve shirt with a fluffy brown jacket. Her hair color is a light, ashy-brown which appears to be up in a messy bun. If you know this girl, please call your local police station immediately. Thank you.
After the announcement the local news station gave, The man was numb, and pale. He looked at a picture of him and Emilia, and looked at his phone. "I can't believe my babygirl is gone." He thought to himself. He couldn't bear the feeling of his daughter being dead. She was his everything. He looked at the closet next to the bathroom, and got up and opened it. He took out his shotgun and reloaded his gun.
He held his gun up to his head, and pulled the trigger.

the end.
