     Phoebe Meredith Hargrove lived a simple life with her parents and twin brother on the golden coast of Santa Monica, California. Fourteen lucky rose tinted years passed before the facade of their family shattered- on the same day they buried their mother, Neil Hargrove was finding himself a new wife.

The veneer of childlike innocence was shattered and swept into the dustbin before they were ready to leave it behind. Billy grew into his father's mould, and then broke past it the day Susan Mayfield took their mother's possessions to a nearby charity shop to make room for her own belongings. Not only that, but her red-headed daughter now used Meredith's art studio as her new bedroom.

The twins wreaked havoc until the man who raised them turned into the monster from their nightmares. Life in Santa Monica was a graveyard at each turn, places that used to bring endless joy now utterly seldom of even an ounce of happiness.

In the last week of September, nineteen eighty four, Neil Hargrove announced to his family at the dinner table that they were moving across the country to a small town named Hawkins. A fresh start. Phoebe threw her plate in his direction, and a week later she was driving her Mustang towards Indiana with a fading bruise on her cheekbone.

Steve Harrington thought he lived a fairly average life. He handed in homework late, perfected the volume in his hair, and often found himself causing trouble with Tommy and Carol. It was a positively mundane life, until Will Byers went missing on November sixth, nineteen-eighty-three. Everything had changed from that night on, but only a select few in Hawkins knew the truth.

The last year changed him - whether it was for the better or not was debatable, but Steve was no longer the carefree King he'd been before battling a demogorgan. He distanced himself from friends, planned on being a loving boyfriend to Nancy Wheeler, and wanted to get into college to impress her.

When the Hargrove twins take over Hawkins with their effervescent Californian energy, Steve becomes baffled by her brilliant anger issues and softness with her step sister. He wants to hate her so badly, but no matter how hard he tried, she always won him over.
