Macie's Party

When I get to Macie’s, the party has already started. I can hear the music down the street, and there are cars parked everywhere. I decide that I don’t want my Mustang to get destroyed, so I park on another street nearby. I walk to Macie’s and let myself in. Over the stereo playing Last Friday Night, I hear Macie yelling for me.

“HEY GURL WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE PARTY TO SHOW UP!” She comes running up, throwing her arms around me in a bear hug. She’s drunk already.  “Macie you don’t have to yell in my ear. So where are all the hot guys?” She lets go of me and points downstairs. “Downstairs by the bar! I saved one for you!” I smile and walk downstairs.

It’s dark, and there are people making out on the couch, people drinking, playing games, and just talking. I look around the room, trying to see if I can find the guy Macie was talking about. I don’t see anyone that extraordinary, a few that are cute, and some that are just plain ugly. One of the cute ones winks at me, and calls me over.

I contemplate whether or not I want to walk over to him, and when I finally decide to, someone grabs my arm and screeches, “HEY GIRL I HAVEN’T SEEN YOU SINCE THE LAST PARTY!” I turn around and see Crystal. Ugh, this girl gets on my nerves.

I met her a few months ago at a party, and she just doesn’t leave me alone. She’s been at all of Macie’s parties since then, and she always flirts with the guys I bring. I swear, if she doesn’t leave me alone I’m going to flip. “Hi Crystal. I’m a bit busy right now.” She winks and says, “It’s all right girl, I know what you’re up to. I saw you look at that guy over there.” Well obviously! “Yeah Crystal, now can you leave so I can talk to him?” I pull my arm from her grip and walk towards him.

As I get closer, he stands up and smiles. “Hi!” He’s polite! That’s a change!

“I thought I saw a beautiful girl walk in here!” He smiles, and his teeth are pearly white and beautiful. When he smiles, his whole face smiles, and his ocean blue eyes stand out even more than they first did. His dark brown hair is messy, and falls over his eye.

But as I walk closer to him, I realize his teeth aren’t really that nice looking… they’re kind of gross actually. And his hair is greasy. Sure, he has nice eyes, but now that I’m closer to him, I realize he isn’t really that attractive. And he stinks.

Great. Now what do I do? I smile and say, “Can you get me a drink?” He goes over to the counter and I watch him get a beer for me. Macie walks down the stairs, and I give her our look, the look that says, “Save me from this guy that I’m not interested in!!” She runs over and pulls me, and I yell to the guy, “Sorry, got to go!” Phew, that was close.

“Thanks Macie. He wasn’t hot at all. I hope that wasn’t the guy you were saving for me…” She looks at me in surprise. “OF COURSE NOT! ARE YOU CRAZY? HE’S OVER THERE!” She points into a corner of the room I didn’t notice before, where there is a guy sitting on the floor and looking around. I watch him glance in all directions, look down, and look directly at me. We lock eyes.

I’m starstruck. I can’t breathe. All I can see is him.

His caramel brown eyes.

The way his curly black hair is messy, yet perfect.

The full lips that are slowly curving upwards into a smile.

My heartbeat quickens. My breath comes faster. He raises an eyebrow at me. I think he’s waiting for me. What should I do? Should I walk to him? Should I wait for him to come to me? I’ve never been nervous about talking to a guy! Never!

I turn to Macie, and she’s looking at me in waiting. “Well, are you going to go talk to him? You better hurry, cause he’s pretty hot, I might take him for myself.” I shake my head and start walking towards him. “Ummm, hiii..” I hear myself stutter. CRAP. I have to keep my cool.

“Well hi there, take a seat.” He smiles and pats the ground next to him, waiting for me to sit down. My legs are frozen. My brain yells at my legs, and I sit down quickly. He smiles and his face somehow becomes even more beautiful. “Are you thirsty? Would you like something to drink?” He looks at me, waiting for a response. “Ok!” He smiles and asks what I want. “Surprise me.”

He winks and gets up and I watch how amazing his butt looks in his jeans as he walks to the bar. The blue shirt he’s wearing is tight enough to show the outline of his huge arms, but not so tight that it’s ugly. This guy is perfect. Macie winks at me from across the room, in the lap of some guy who looks like he’s 30. Oh Macie, don’t get into trouble...

The guy comes back with our drinks. He brought me a Pepsi. “I brought you a Pepsi, I hope you’re ok with that? I don’t usually drink at parties… Who knows what someone will do if I pass out drunk! And I love Pepsi, so I figured you might too. Am I right?” He smiles, and I smile back.

“Yea, I do!” I’ve started to get comfortable with him. He just makes it so easy! His carefree vibe and laidback style makes me feel like I don’t have to worry about trying to be sexy, or over the top flirty.

“So what’s your name? Do you live around here?” He seems genuinely curious about me, so I decide I can tell him. There have been a lot of times that I haven’t trusted guys enough to even tell them my name…

“I’m Maria. And yea, I live about 20 minutes away. What about you?”

He smiles and says, “My name is Mike. I live really close to here, down the street.” This guy has lived this close to Macie the whole time??? “I just moved here, last week.” Oh. Ok.

“Well that’s really cool, how do you like it?” He smiles. “I like it now that I’ve met you.” I felt my face turn red, and I giggled.

CRASH! I turn my head and see two guys fighting at the bar, with a girl standing next to a chair, covering her mouth. “SHE’S MY GIRLFRIEND GET YOUR HANDS OFF HER!”

One of the guys, large, built, and tan who looks about 24, is screaming. He had knocked over a chair trying to push over the other guy, who is a lot smaller and skinnier. I know who will win this fight. The skinny one was standing back a bit, in surprise.

“DUDE I WAS HELPING HER OUT OF HER CHAIR!”

“YOU JUST WANTED TO TOUCH HER WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!?!?” Then, the boyfriend of the girl shoved the other guy, causing him to stumble backwards.

As the skinny guy fell, someone walked by, causing them to collide. When they hit, one of them knocked over a huge plant that was by the door to the backyard, nearby to where Mike and I were sitting. I was frozen as I watched the plant fall towards me.

“MARIA WATCH OUT!” I hear Mike yell, but he’s too late. I cry out as the plant hits my head, giving me a splitting headache.

I think my head is cracked… I think I’m dying.

I try to open my eyes but it hurts so much. I slump against the wall, holding my head. I think I hear someone… some guy… he’s talking to me… he’s yelling…

“MARIA! MARIA DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES!” I hear a lot of commotion around me…

“Ew she’s bleeding!” “Dude I think she’s dying!” “SOMEONE DO SOMETHING!” “Maria it’s Macie! Open your eyes! You’re ok!”

I feel myself slip away…
