Meet Us not ‘Us’

Felicity’s P.O.V.

The door gently closed as Alice left the house. It had to be Alice because if it were anyone else the door would slam shut leaving the whole house shattering.

I saw the beautiful brunette return from swimming from out the window. In her torn frilly, cream mini skirt, with her black one-piece bathers as a shirt and orange thongs, making a soft sound as she ever so elegantly walked through the puddle, her perfect, wet, hip-length hair bounced as she took each step.

Alice was lost, she knew where she walked but her hope and faith in the world was missing. She walked with her head down. To watch this was torture. A girl with her beauty and brains should have stridden with head held high not walked staring at the ground. Alice doesn’t play victim she is the victim. She lacked dreams, imagination and self-worth.

This isn’t a story of an uninspired author talking about a fictional angel who hates life just to create drama; no this is ‘us’ talking about her. Alice will fall but grow strong; she will lose everything but gain more; Ali will cry but will laugh; she will push but she will hug; Al will hate and she MUST love.

“Dinner!!!” A voice echoed through the house. Mom.
“MOM you gave me a heart attack!!” I shouted back.
“Fliss shut up and come down.” Frankie said rolling his eyes as he began to run down stairs.
“Someone call Ali!” Dad said.
“I’ll do it.” I chirped.
“NO!” Frankie snapped, I stared blankly. “I’ll do it.”
“Shit,” Mom whispered as something broke.

Typical Frankie protecting little sister from big bad Felicity. I used to think that Alice was jealous of me and he was trying to protect her from the pain of my perfection. I was almost right except she was jealous of my shallowness and my ignorance towards it.
“Check yes Juliet are you with me, rain is falling down on the window I won’t go….” Ali’s soft, perfect voice murmured through the door.
“Al. Babe dinner’s ready.” Frankie said I could hear the smile in his voice. She got up and just before they could see me I ran down stairs.

“Whoa dinner actually smells… good” Frankie smirked. I rolled my eyes at his comment just to be sure I got the Gucci boots I wanted.  
“Are you still trying to get those boots FairyFloss?” Daddy asked.
“Yup.” I said popping the ‘p’
 “Alice do you want to go shopping tomorrow?” Dad asked, his eye were dead but at the same time full of determination.
“ALICE!” I shouted, she began swaying and moving her arms counting ‘1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4’, she was practising a really good routine, unaware of her surroundings. “ALICE!”
“Hey Fliss don’t shout at her.” Frankie said.
“Sorry ‘Dad’” I said very unapologetically.
“Be quiet both of you.” Dad said. Alice poked her food and stabbed her fork into a pea and ate it. She stood up and walked to fridge and grabbed a small bottle of coconut water.
“Can I be excused?” she murmured, Mom looked at Dad and nodded to the plate.
“Darling how about you eat some more food?” he smiled.
“I’m not really hungry.” She said looking from me to Frankie expectantly.
“You haven’t eaten anything today.” Mum sighed.
“Yes I did.” Alice snapped, Mum and Dad’s expressions were unreadable. “Sorry, that was uncalled for.”
“Sweetie you need to eat.” Mom said painfully.
“But it’s bad to eat a big dinner, it’s “Breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a pauper.’” She said, Frankie laughed and winked at her.
“Did you eat breakfast?”
“Yes. Can I go now?” she hesitated. 
“Fine you guys are in the basement until we do the rooms tomorrow. I’ll come tuck you in when you’re changed.” Mom said.

“So are you guys excited for school?” Dad asked.
“Dad ‘course FairyFloss is excited, new hearts to break, schools to dominate.” Frankie smirked.
“Shut up Frankie you don’t know the first thing about me.” I snapped.
“Please, you’re my little sister I know everything about you.” He said before taking a big bite of steak.
“Yeah I am not just Ali.” I muttered.
“So Frankie any sports you’re interested in doing?” Dad said.
“Yep I wanna do indoor soccer. There’s this place on Victoria Road.” Frankie said mouth full.
“What about you Floss?” Mom smiled.
“I don’t want to do anything they don’t have a cheer squad like I was CAPTAIN of in America.” I said trying to make them guilty.
“They have competitive ones. I was looking it up for you earlier.” Ali muttered from the couch.
“Still it’s not the same.” I said being stubborn.
“Whatever. Al what’d you wanna do?”
“I don’t know dance I guess.” She sounding like it was a question not a statement.
“Well this better go well, ‘cause I lost everything for you!” I snapped.
“FELICITY!” Frankie shouted.
“That’s not it Felicity and you know it!” Mom yelled.
“Alice you know that’s not true, we moved because your mother and I got job promotions.” We all turned to her but she wasn’t there.
“Well done Felicity, can you do anything nice EVER?” Frankie said shaking his head. Then stood up and went to chase her.  

Alice’s P.O.V.
Hidden under the stair I waited for Frankie to try and find me.
“Al. Where are you?” his voice whispered. I held my breath. Moving around, he slowly made this way to me. He sat down next to me and his arm slowly pulled me in so my head was on his chest.
“Frankie I’m fine you can go.” I spat the words like venom though I didn’t want him to leave me.
“Sure, sure. You’re so fine you’re crying under a stair case.” He said sarcastically.
“Whatever.”  I sighed refusing to make I contact, as I pushed my head into his shoulder.
“So you gonna go shopping with Felicity tomorrow?”
“Do I have to?” I sighed.
“Yeah come on it will be funny, Mom sucking up; buying you anything. Come on, for me?” I sighed signalizing defeat, “Thank you”

 

Next Morning

“You sure I look ok?” Felicity asked, begging for compliments, well Frankie was begging for trouble.
“Meh,” he shrugged, “you look alright, I guess.”
“What is it the boots, the hat, oh IT’S not the dress is it?” she panicked.
“Frankie, put her out of her misery.” I said rolling my eyes.
“Al you gave the game away. It’s not like she’s in misery, she know she looks good she wants as to say it but I refuse.” He smirked.
“Hate to break it to ya but you just did.” I laughed.
“Well Alice looks better.” He snapped waiting for an explosion.
“What in sweatpants with leather ankle, ‘wow’ jersey crop and those heeled boots?” Felicity said in disgust.
“Yep she looks modest. Great quality to possess, Fliss you should try it.” He laughed cause of what he was gonna get out of with.
“You, you, you, oh shut UP!” she stuttered.
“Is that all?” he smirked.
“Will you two shut UP? Gee I’m trying to listen to this.” I snapped, done with their rubbish. 
“BE QUIET I’M TRYING TO WORK HERE!!” Dad yelled from the office.
“Sorry Dad.” We chorused, then bursted into laughter. We heard stomps then Dad, burst into the room, fist clenched, he walked straight towards me, I closed my eyes, cringed as I smelt the alcohol in his breath. 
“Do you think that’s funny Alice?” he questioned leaning in.
“No.” I managed to stutter out.
“No? No Sir!” he shouted.
“Sorry Sir.” I said shaking, I avoided eye contact.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you!”
“Sorry Sir.” I sobbed.
“You better bloody be sorry!” he spat the words.
Lifting he hand just as it made contact with my face, Frankie laughed. “For what it’s worth I thought it was flipping hilarious.”

“Girls let’s go shopping.” Mom froze when she saw Dad’s messy tie and untucked shirt, signs he had been drinking, “Allan, how’s the case going?”
“It’d be going great but these idiots won’t shut the…” he began.
“Well the girls and I are leaving so how ‘bout you go finish the case with a big cup of coffee and we leave, hm?” she patiently suggested, Dad knew not to disobey her ‘suggestions’ because they were more orders.

We took steps around then I saw ‘Hype’.
“Let’s go to ‘Hype’, I see ‘Vans’.” I said. We shopped and shopped until I saw Dotti which is where the real fun began.

“OMG!” a voice screeched. “I love your boots.” I turned to see a perfect blonde walk towards me.
“Thanks.” I smiled.
“I’m Perri, are you from America? Your accent is thick.” She said.
“Perri, I just found the cutest top ever but I can’t find my size.” A gorgeous brunette with thick dark curls. She looked down at the top I picked up. “That’s it.”
“Sorry, do you want it?”
“NO, it would look way better on you. I’m Charlie.”
