Brightest Fade

I ran with the wind, feeling my dress billow up from my skin around the edges, lifting a little on my legs. I heard his footsteps behind me before his body hit my back. His arms snaked around my waist and he pulled me tight against his chest.

"I hope you know I love you."

I smiled as he said the words. Yet somehow, I felt this was too good to last. Sometimes love could be too perfect. Sometimes it just burned so bright that it couldn't help but fade. Only during rare moments did nothing come in between two people and their love.

I knew that now would not be a rare moment. But I also knew that though it wouldn't last, I did love him. Just as I turned to tell him that, a gun went off somewhere near us.

And just like that, he was gone.

I had waited too long.
