Chapter 2:
Blessing or Curse?
• • •
My father died the day he changed. He chose to change his mind. They said the
memories and persona he received were too 'dark' for him to survive. In that one day,
he was driven into depression. He couldn't handle it. He was blinded and felt so
isolated, even though my mother never left his side. He took his own life that day during
the one moment my mother left to check on me in my nursery, just two rooms down.
He was just 25 when he died. Rory was two, and I was just born. Sometimes I blame
myself for the incident. My mom thinks I'm crazy.
My mother chose to change her body. She was born blind and deaf. She was bullied all
throughout her life, and could never properly defend herself. Unlike my father's
change, her change was a miracle. Her sight and hearing were all restored. She was
normal again.
My sister always knew she would change her body. I thought she was beautiful even
before her change. I always admired the shine of her dark hair. She hated it though. She
hated everything about her looks. She was so insecure with who she was, she cut
herself. Apparently, it made her feel better. When she changed, all of her scars
disappeared. It felt like cheating. You did all these bad things to your past self, then
after the change, you could erase the memories or erase the scars. You got to disregard
your problems. You never learned from your mistakes.
