Kayci in the mm

Kayci (17 years old)

"You sure you gonna be able to find it?" My mama shouted as I got in my newly bought car.

"Yes mam, I got my phone so I'm good, see you later. Love youuu." I said back as I closed my door.

"Love you too big girl." She said than closed the screen door. I knew she was nervous about my first day in Atlanta, but there was nothing that she could do so.

I just moved up here 4 days before the start of a school year to live with my mama. I decided it would be best to let my dad get a break from me and give my mama a chance. He declined at first but eventually gave in.

As I drove to school I tried to focus on the road because these people down here drive all fool up. I mentally checked that I had everything. My ID, my jacket, books, glasses so if my contacts fell out and so on. I put all of this in my VS PINK bookbag. I never carried a purse because I never could understand how people were fine with that extra weight.

As I pulled into the school it didn't look that bad. Wait I lied. It looked terrible. Boys were outside on the steps shooting dice. Girls were walking around half naked. I mean dang ain't nobody tryna see booty cheeks.

I looked away and got out my car. Once I locked my doors, I went inside. As soon as I stepped in the doors all I saw were stares. I ignored them since there weren't too many.

I went into the office to sign in. I wasn't exactly sure what to do so I asked the lady at the desk.

"Excuse me mam." As I spoke I got more stares. I looked down at my outfit. I went simple with a white and blue Thrasher shirt, ripped blue jeans, and some white hurraches. My hair was packed down tightly under my sew in, which at the moment was flat ironed. I was scared to overdress, so I chose this.

The desk lady looked shook. "Did I do something wrong?" I asked before she could say something. She was looking at me weird.

"Oh no sweetie, it's just most students don't even take the time to say mam or sir. But how may I help you." She replied. I never understood how people didn't say mam or sir.

"I'm new here and I don't know what to do." I told her.

"What's your name?"

"Kayci Greene" She looked up.

"Is it Greene with a "e" at the end?" She asked. I nodded. She went back to typing.

"Okay so your locker number, which is 485, is written down with the passcode." She said handing me a paper and continuing with what she was saying. "Here's your schedule and your first class looks to be Advanced Chemistry." I took my schedule. As I looked at it the classes weren't that bad.

"Any questions" I looked back up.

"Um is there a basketball team here?" That was the one question I was dying to ask. Ball was life to me. I sound like a dude I bet, but I don't care. That was the only thing I cared about besides reading.

"Yes we do," She said smiling, "Are you planning to try out?" More stares came my way as they waited for my answer. I nodded.

"Well that's just wonderful. Tryouts are a month away, so get ready." I smiled and walked out of the office. Once I walked out I heard the whispers.

"She really think she can ball?"

"I bet she trash, she don't look like she can play."

"She prolly good."

"She sexy."

"For a darkskin, she cute." Pause, I hate that. Like why are you automatically considered ugly if you aren't lightskin. Ion got nothing against them, but why if you aren't yellow, then automatically your black.
God people are dumb.

After that I toned out the whispers. I was determined for this to be a good day.

Since I was so deep in thought, i bumped into somebody so hard, I stumbled and hit my head on a locker.

I looked to see I bumped into a fine dude with long dreads. I hope this gonna be like those Wattpad books where the girl bumps into the boy, he helps and checks that she is alright, and they become friends who eventually go out.

"Move you fucking clutz." He said causing everyone to laugh. I looked away in embarrassment and almost walked off, but instead I turn around to say something.

"You see, I would say something smart, but I'm low-key salty your hair almost as long as my weave. I guess that's why you act like a little girl." I say while shrugging. To be extra I flip my hair in his face as I walk away. I could feel him glaring at my back.

So much for a good day.
