There was no sound. No light, no animal, no human. It was only me. It was always me. I walked around in the never-ending forest and never found my way out. I was trapped going around and around in circles until I just fell flat on my face. I gobbled up some disgusting dirt and spat it back out as I looked up to see a figure. An unfamiliar figure. Who or what was this and what was it doing here?

I wake up sweating, panting, and looking at the time. 9:45 am...I'm late! I quickly jump out of my blue bed and run out of the messy bedroom. Note to self: clean it later, even though you'd forget. I speedily take care of hygiene and eat a small granola bar as a breakfast. I then zoom out the door racing to get to Cream's. I knock on the brown door of her mother's house and I see Ms. Vanilla. At first she was smiling, but she realizes who's at the door and gives and angry look. Oh boy, not a good sign.

"You're late," she glares at me furiously, "Cream's already gone."

"Oh," I sigh disappointed, "I'm sorry, my alarm didn't go off a-and I didn't mean to miss her goodbye party. I didn't even get to say goodbye."

Summers are extremely hard for me. It's like my alarm clock knows not to ring at the right times. And I, once again, was late for Cream's goodbye party. Every summer, she goes to this summer program that lasts all season and I never get to see her.

"We tried to calm her down so she'd wait for you," Ms. Vanilla admits looking away, "But then it got late. So, we had to send her away. Everyone waited for you, Sonic. They were very disappointed, I'm very disappointed. You know Tails and Amy needed you the most at this party."

I hate lectures with a passion. This is why I live alone without my parents...if I even had any. I live under my own roof, I live under my rules.

"Tails and Amy were crying," Ms. Vanilla stares at me again, "I couldn't get them to stop. Look, I guess all I'm saying is be a little faster. Value people's time. Aren't you supposed to be the fastest thing alive? Goodbye, Sonic."

She closes the door and I can hear her sobs. I feel extremely bad for her now. I let her down. I let everyone down. I let myself down. I have to make this right. I zoom over to Tails' house first. I hesitantly knock on the door. For the first time, I feel nervous. The door opens after a few seconds and I see red, not yellow-orange like I expected.

"Whadduya want?" the red echidna mumbles angrily, "You've already screwed up by not showing up at the goodbye party."

"Look, Knuckles," I keep my eyes from looking at his, "I just wanted to see Tails. I really feel bad about not being there for him in his time of need. Let me in."

I watch Knuckles look back towards Tails' living room and directs his attention towards me afterwards.

"He's not in the mood to see you," Knuckles closes the door on me.

Wow, Tails must be really upset with me. That's never happened before. Oh well, I'll visit him later. I should see if Amy's okay. I zoom to her little pink cottage and knock on the door. Instead of seeing pink and red, I see black, red, and pink. You've got to be kidding me.

"Shadow, Rouge," I try to play it off, but the frowns never wiped off their faces.

"What's the deal, Faker," Shadow grumbles, "You show up here, but can't show up at a party."

"You know, Amy really needed you," Rouge crosses her arms, "And you weren't there for her. Aren't you supposed to be a hero no matter what?"

"Well, yeah, but-"

"You never cared for her, did you?" Shadow asks accusingly.

I look to the welcome mat in shame. It seems like the world's against me all of a sudden.

"I do care," I whine, "I just woke up a little too late. My alarm didn't go off. I need to see Amy."

"Sorry, you can't," Rouge says blocking the door, "You broke her heart."

"And it's my job to protect my little sister," Shadow growls, "So beat it, hedgehog."

"Please, just let me talk to her," I plead, "I couldn't talk to Tails, Knuckles wouldn't let me."

"I don't want you in my house, you filthy rat!" I hear Amy in the background.

"You heard it from her," Rouge snickered, "Filthy rat."

"Okay, I'm going," I sigh as I walk away.

I hate being called a rat. Rats and hedgehogs are not even close to being the same. As I leave, I feel an arrow-like thing strike my butt.

"That's for hurting Amy," Shadow calls back at me then closes the door.

Man, I really screwed up this time.
