My Blood Rose Garden
It was a cold fall morning in early November like any other, the sun hasn't even quite come up yet. The sky above was dark and grey, contrasting feelings of gloom. Thick, heavy clouds covered the stars above with the promise of rainfall to come later in the evening. This particular morning seemed to be foggier than other mornings, clouding my vision and making the objects that surrounded me hard to see. A strong wind began to pick up blowing leaves along with it, and forced sharp chills to run down my back, which caused me to react and wrap my arms around my shoulders and shiver. Taking a deep breath, I breathe in the crisp air and hold onto my mother's charm necklace which had a unique rose pendant to it that she had given to me before she passed away. I never got to meet her since she died when I was too young to remember. Father was the only person I had left now, and I didn't have any siblings to help watch over dad. I glance around, and from what I can see there wasn't anyone in sight, but only an occasional car that would pass every now and then. I sigh, " Maybe I shouldn't have come out here this early in the morning," I mumble to myself. Normally I would walk out here an hour early every morning so I can take the opportunity to enjoy nature and relax for awhile before having to go to high school; I've been doing this ever since my freshman year. However, all that I could think about was sitting by the fireplace back at home and sipping hot cocoa with father. It sure would be nice. Suddenly I feel a pair of ice cold arms wrap around my body, and the world before me faded away into a pitch black nothingness. No sounds, no color, just an empty meaningless void of darkness.
A beautiful, yet sorrowful tune now filled my head. The majestic song projected mixed feelings of confusion, pain, sadness, loss, and loneliness. With every new note that would play, the more consumed I would be by it as I gradually lost track of time, and all my worries and problems just faded away. It seemed as if the universe had devoured whole, leaving nothing but the emptiness that now poisoned me.
Tossing and turning, my eyes fluttered open, and I jolted up placing my frail hand on my forehead. My eyes took a few seconds to adjust to my surroundings, the sight that stood before me utterly petrified me. I realized that this wasn't my home, in fact I wasn't quite sure where I was at all. The walls around me were faded and dusty and were covered in simple purple floral prints. I was laying in a large white king-sized canopy bed. The sheets were covered in fresh dark red rose petals. Two tables lay at either side of the bed, and upon them sat black and maroon candles which were dim and hardly lit the room. My heartbeat began to pick up, and I felt every ounce of blood that corsed through my body run cold, draining my skin of any color. So many unanswered questions ran through my head at that moment:"Where am I?" "How did I get here?" "Does father know I'm missing?" I place my hand on my chest, "Calm down Fionna! There is no need to panic just yet, you can think your way around this," I say calming myself. Suddenly it occurred to me that I could use my phone thats, safely stored in my pocket to call for help. I reached for my sweater that contained my device only to realize that I was not even wearing the same clothes that I was from earlier. They had been replaced with an elegant white gown. I fought back tears at that point, and I had felt an overwhelming sense of defeat. However I knew that I couldn't give up. I wiped away my tears and stood to my feet "Stay calm Fionna! You'll figure this out, you just have to find the exit to this place," I encourage myself. "Okay, here goes nothing!"
I take a deep breath and opened the door to the room only to be greeted by long, dark, ominous halls. Swiftly grabbing the candle nearest to me, I leave the room, silently shutting the large chamber-like door that opened to it.
For what seems like several hours, I wander the halls. Suddenly at the bottom of a set of stairs in the distance I see a light. Upon closer inspection I notice that the light is coming from a large medieval like dining area. I hear the same beautiful music from earlier play in the distance, and it seemed to be coming from inside of the room. It got louder as I steadily got closer to the area. Finally I had made it to the end of the staircase, and I had a nicer view of the place. When I peered into the room I realised that is was even more gargantuan then I had previously imagined. Inside in the middle of the room lay a rather large antique dining table, which looked as if it could feed up to eight people if not more. Above it was a huge chandelier decked out with thousands of jewels, and it held hundreds of candles which brightly lit up everything. On both of the walls beside the table were multiple old timey photographs of young brides. Finally, in the furthest corner of the room sat a large grand piano. I had assumed that was where the music was coming from "Wait...If that is where the music was coming from, then who or what is playing it?"
Just then the music stops in mid-song. Then something from the piano stands up, catching my eye, which stops me dead in my tracks. It was a very tall, slender figure that was standing there in the corner of the room. It was a man that looked to be young; as a matter of fact he looked not that much older than I was. If I were to guess his age I'd say he'd probably be about twenty, three years older than me. He had long, dark brunette hair tied back into a low ponytail. He also wore a strange dress attire. His clothes looked as if they were made in the gothic time period. "Good evening my lovely dear fiancé, would you care to join me for a glass of wine?" I could feel my eyes widening, and my stomach drop. Realizing he was the one who had kidnapped me and brought me here I quickly snap "Y-you! Who are you? What do want with me?" I couldn't help but stutter from mixed feelings of shock and fear. He turns around, now face to face with me, and smiles. His smile was twisted and wrong, showing a set of razor sharp teeth that looked as if they could pierce skin with no problem. His deep red bloodthirsty eyes glared into mine, as if he were staring straight into my soul. Chuckling, he sends goosebumps all over me.
"I apologise for not being able to properly introduce myself before my dear. I'm Damian, and I've brought you here to make you my bride," his voice was absolutely chilling. Every single word that came out of his mouth was carefully chosen, as if he truly meant everything he said. The way that he said it was utterly terrifying. Something about this whole ordeal was wrong, horribly wrong. Taking multiple steps back, I nearly fall. "S-stay back! Keep away from me!" I turn around and sprint out of that room as fast as I could, not even looking back once. In the distance I could hear Damian mockingly laugh at me, then calling out, "You can run Fionna, but you cannot hide from me!" I ignore him and keep running, running, and running. I didn't even know where I was going to, but at that moment I could care less. Anywhere was better than spending another second in that room with him. And of course it didn't help that this place was such a maze.
At the end of the hall was a large door that was cracked open. I took my chances and bolt into the room, slamming the door behind me, which in return caused echoing to travel down the dark and damp halls. Finally I had the chance to stop and catch my breath, letting out a satisfying sigh of relief. I turn around to a pitch black room. The air around me was freezing, and the smell was absolutely repulsive, especially with this ridiculous gown that I had on. Now that my attention was drawn to the dress, I realize that is wasn't just a random dress after all, but a simple and elegant wedding dress. I notice that I was still holding the candle that I had picked up when I was in the room that I had awoken in, however the flame on it had nearly went out already except for the wick which was still a bright orange color. "There has to be a way to get this candle burning again, but how? Oh wait, that's it!" I cup both of my hands around the wick and gently blow on it. After a few attempts, the candle lights up. "Heck ye...O-oh...my...god! I...I...p-please..no!" Gasping, I place a trembling arm up to my face. Huge wells of tears began to form in my eyes, and slide silently down my flushed cheeks. Falling to the floor, I began to sob my heart out. "Oh god why? Please...please make it go away. They didn't deserve this..." Their vacant stares tortured me, watching my every move as they just sat there lifeless. Their flesh putrid, green, and rotting. Maggots and worms ate away at them, tearing at their skin apart little by little. The smell of death lingered in the air, making me sick to my stomach. An ear piercing clap of thunder shook the room. I pull my legs close towards me and tightly hug them. "Please, just make it stop. Make it all stop." then memories that I made with father flood my head. He must be worried sick by now. He needs me. I'm all he has left. He doesn't have anyone else to look after him. That's why if I can't fight for myself then I have to fight for him.
At the opposite side of the room was a small window. It was almost too small for me to fit out of, however if I squeeze then I'll manage. I stand up and head towards the window, trying my best to avoid the corpses and successfully make it out of the window, ripping my dress and falling on the muddy ground below. Getting up, I run without direction. I wanted desperately to go home and tell father that I was okay and safe from harms way. I was so close that I could just taste the freedom.
----------Damian's point of view----------
"Foolish girl, did you honestly think that you had the chance to escape me?" I chuckle. Her scent is strong, I could smell every ounce of blood that courses through her body from a mile away. Why doesn't she understand? I know exactly where she is, and where she is heading. Ha! She would make a fine specimen to my collection, and I'm not willing to give that up. I follow the pitiful girl out into the pouring rain. Droplets come down and pitter patter onto my head. She slips on some mud and stumbles, collapsing upon the earth. Now was my chance, and I take it pinning her to the ground to prevent her from getting up, which startles her causing her to gasp. I smirk, " You mortals are all the same. You allow yourselves become so full of hope that you let your guard down." She struggles to break free, but when that fails she begins begging and pleading "Please, please Damian let me go! I Swear to you that I will not tell anyone! I-mph!" I forcefully slam my hand over her mouth, her light brown eyes water up with tears. Seeing her like this is very satisfying and so very delightful. Her sorrow is like music to my ears, "Don't worry my dearest Fionna, this will only be extremely excruciating." I lean in closer towards her neck and inhale her sweet scent. Smirking, I take my pocket knife and thrash her tender neck open, causing blood to violently spew out everywhere. Droplets of her thick dark blood hit my face and cheeks. Fionna's eyes widen in horror, and roll back into her head. I remove my hand from her mouth. She attempts to speak unsuccessfully, instead what comes out is the gurgling noises of her choking on her own blood. I slap a hand on my forehead and look up, hysterically laughing, and smearing it all over my face. "No need to be so immature and play with your meal Damian! Even if it's very amusing!" I lift her small delicate body up to mine and devour her. Her blood so warm, and so sweet in my mouth. Some escapes my lips and rolls down my chin and neck, and onto my clothes, staining them. Once I'm finished I lift her up with me and swing her now limp body over my shoulders, and carry her back to the mansion.
"Oh Fionna darling, why must you ruin your lovely dress that I spent hours sewing for you?" Tsk tsk tsk. "Don't worry dear, you're almost perfect for my collection just a few more touches here and there and you'll be done." I finish curling her hair, stitching her neck, and fixing her dress. "There you go, just one last touch" I walk over to a nearby desk and pull out a gorgeous crown of pure white roses and place it in Fionna's hair. I smile at her, then exit the room. "Goodnight, forever" then the door shuts behind me.
In the darkness, in an old cluttered room full of forever young brides awakens a once innocent young lady, whom has been tainted with the curse of immortality. Her eyes no longer holds the same love that it used to once upon a time. Her smile, now wilted and twisted. Skin, once a warm cream colour, now a deathly white. Eyes, once full of hope and dreams, now full of hate and revenge. She stands up, her long white gown flowing behind her. She smiles, a sick smile filled with bad intentions. She chuckles inhumanly, "Oh Damian! You better run, because I'm coming for you! And I won't rest until I see your lifeless body lying
in front of me ripped apart limb by limb by limb" she smirks "That's not a threat, it's a promise."
