I was just going to make my bed when I heard the quick and loud footsteps arriving at my room.
"Mmoooomm",Sarah screamed. Her voice was so loud that it made me tremble with fear. I rushed to her to see if she's okay and within a blink of seconds I approached her, she jumped to hug me and delightfully she said," mom, I met dad at night yesterday."
Seeing her okay, I was a lot relaxed and I took deep, deep breathes but I was more relaxed to see her smiling too brightly. I do remember that my little daughter was dancing with joy. Well, she shone the brightest that day.I said to her," Princess, daddy's not here. He's very far from us at his military job but see, he misses you so much that he even came to meet you in your sleep." She nodded her head and with her beautiful smile she said," no mom, I actually met dad and he let me sleep after we talked for hours."
I couldn't help it but just let my daughter stay happy for her thoughts.
"now, I'm going to tell all my friends that daddy gave his precious time from his job", Sarah said.
It'd been been 4 years and David hadn't been able to get off his duty. It was difficult for me to raise Sarah in the absence of a father. I missed him but then I woke up from my thoughts and looked at Sarah's cheering face and held her hands to take her to the bathroom. " what talks did Sarah and daddy had?", I asked."Daddy said that he missed me and mommy every time and he said that he was working so hard. He was wearing a black band and there were new batches on his favourite green jacket. He said that he was honoured by the generals."
I interrupted her," oh my little princess's daddy is too brave. "
The talk was too long, long enough that I felt David himself came to see her. It was time for Sarah to get ready for school. I packed her bags and let her eat breakfast and she was still speaking about her dream. "Princess now stop speaking. We shall continue after you come back home from school." Meanwhile, the bus arrived and Sarah stepped inside the school bus and again from the bus window, she screamed," daddy said under tha pillow......" And the bus started off.
I took a long breathe again and missed him, counting days for him to come back home soon. The memories with my dear husband flashed back beautifully. Suddenly, someone knocked the door and there stood the darkest zone of my life. I opened the door and I saw Patrick with his gloomiest face. Behind him were the soldiers carrying a coffin.
" I'm so sorry Lisa", Patrick said as he opened the coffin. I lost my balance. My hands trembled with shock, I was numb, senseless as I saw my husband losing his breathe and his eyes closed. I wasn't ready to accept the fact that he will never open them again. They said that he fought too bravely but lost his life the previous day.
I wanted to talk to him for the last time and confess how much I and Sarah missed him. I thought to myself,"why just Sarah? Why couldn't I dream of him? Why couldn't I see him for the last time?" I was regretting but then I came to my sense back when I noticed a black band on his wrist and some batches on his green jacket. I had never seen them before.
I got confused, immediately ran to Sarah's room and checked the pillows but I got nothing. Then, I ran towards my to and there, under the pillow, I saw a wrapped glad, blooded and a letter inside it. My eyes were wide opened. My heartbeat fostered as I took the letter. I unfolded it and began reading.
" Lisa, I'm so sorry that I couldn't live for long but I'm thankful that I got you and Sarah. I had the most beautiful time with you. You need to stay strong for our little princess. I love you! And I am always in your heart."Tears bursted out of my eyes and I felt my chest too heavy but I quickly stopped them when I saw Sarah from behind. I turned around, pretending to smile. I never noticed that my daughter had grown up too matured. " mommy", she called as she noticed my watery eyes. She too, cried and again paused to wipe her tears, kept her cold hands on her chest and said," daddy's not gone mommy. He's always in our hearts. That's what he said yesterday before leaving."
