The doctor came and treated her sprained ankle. But there was no sign of Adhi or maasa, thankfully.
It was late afternoon when Devi was limping her way to Her Store room when she saw Saradh and Kesar talking. She noticed that Kesar enjoyed his company and Saradh valued her's. Something really beautiful is on its way!
Devi smiled at the thought and went to her room.
The day passed like that and fall came.
Adhi and Saradh were discussing some work when Saradh asked out of the blue,
" How's Devi now? Better".
Adhi stopped abruptly and looked up at him.
"Yes, she is fine, You don't need to Worry about Her".
For Adhi, his words meant that Saradh didn't need to waste his time worrying over that woman.
But Saradh understood something entirely different.
His eyes widened and he stifled a smile.
What a discovery!
" Adhi, no need to get all offensive on me!"
"What?" Adhi asked confused.
" I was just asking generally about Devi but you went and warned me to mind my own stuff and not bother myself with Your Devi", Saradh explained.
" When did I ever say that?" Adhi asked incredulously.
"You didn't but your undertone did! Getting all Jealous just by my asking about her!"
Saradh accused playfully.
"When did I! Don't be delusional! Jealous!! Over that woman! Not a chance in hell!" Adhi exclaimed but froze when the memory of their proximity passed his eyes.
" Relax! I was just pulling your leg. I asked because you looked lost, like your head was not in the work and stuff, probably because of Her".
"Can you shut up! That Chauhan doesn't bother me at all", Adhi shouted.
" When did I ever take her name?" Saradh asked meaningfully.
Adhi paused.
" Don't you have work to do. Wasting time like that!" Adhi asked.
" OK, I am going but changing topic won't change the Fact", Saradh spoke while disappearing into corridor.
Adhi shut the files and threw them into a corner. He sighed deeply.
Whatever that transpired in the morning bw them, he wasn't feeling even an iota of remorse even though he was convincing himself to feel disgusted by that incident.
He wanted to feel that again.
"NO" ,Adhi shouted to no one, against his own treacherous Desires.
And against his better judgement, Adhi found himself at the door of Her room.
Looking in, he found her leisurely sprawled on the floor, smiling while looking at the phone screen.
'That frustration again!' He groaned internally and stepped inside the room.
Footsteps alerted Devi and she looked in the direction to see Him.
And she jumped up into a standing position unconsciously.
Adhi looked confused but nevertheless took a step closer. And oddly enough, she took a step back.
Now that was weird. She was eerily quiet! He expected her to enquire him the reason for visiting her so late but she...
He took another step closer and she stepped back, again.
Devi's mind was blank. Her whims were controlling her steps.
And thus she took another step back. But didn't realise that a sack of wheat was right behind her and lost her balance on striking it.
Adhi continued to look as she fell on her back, on the sack; hung in the middle barely balancing as if in a yoga position and then trying to get up but failing due to absence of support.
She rattled like a fish without water and he chuckled.
"Help kijiye na!" She pleaded.
" madad chahie toh..." He asked smirking.
'Tit for Tat'
" Fine! I will do what you ask, now please help me up!"
" Anything!?" He asked for confirmation.
"Anything!!" She repeated exasperated.
"OK" he affirmed and pulled her up by her palms.
And she came right upto him. Close enough to be, enchanted by her fragrance.
He was engrossed in her eyes and Devi softly freed her hand from his hold. She turned to lift her phone but paused on feeling a resistance.
Turning around she found her wrist in his steel grip and his eyes pulling her closer like a magnet. And thus she let herself be pulled closer.
Both continued to look into each other's eyes.
"I have work to do", she whispered softly, in a voice she never knew existed.
" You promised right now. Anything", he reminded her in the soft tone, equally dazed.
He felt Peace right now.
Peace...
Devi...
Saradh...
His words roamed his head.
Jealousy...
And with that Adhi let go of her hands abruptly and stepped back.
He started leaving when few voices were heard in corridor.
But he started to leave nevertheless.
Devi smiled as a light bulb lit over her head.
"Ruk jaiye".
He paused and turned around.
" I think maasa is outside ".
" So.." he asked uninterested.
"So if she saw You leaving MY room at this Hour she will MISUNDERSTAND".
" Je toh sahi baat hai", he murmured.
" Ab ke?" He asked.
She did a bhangra internally.
Her plan has worked. She will ask him to hide in such a place that his hiding place will be given away easily and maasa will see him. And then he will be Super Embarrassed.
"Now, you go and hide over there", she pointed.
He agreed and disappeared in a flash.
Devi smiled and awaited the arrival of Dear Maasa.
