NOIR, CHICAGO
The Sun cast it's last golden rays over Nitel Hills, bathing the city of Noir in it'd fiery light. The ever weird hums of solar powered lamps filling the streets below with a pleasant buzz. A mere hour from, they would be silent, unable to glean more sun light. At least, that's what Ted had said...
"So, what did you get us, Captain? "
I looked to my side and raised an eyebrow.." You're still on medical leave, Genoa." I said.
"Discharged as of four minutes and thirty seconds ago," Genoa replied, his gaming avatar rummaging through his hip pouch and pulling out a crumpled piece of paper, stamped with the official premium player seal. "See?"
Alen could see the faint glow of the magistrate seal that confirmed the paper as genuine. "You do know how angry Zack was when you faked your papers last time right?", was the reply as they both moved away from the mission board, flicking through the papers causally. Quick assassination in Easton of some minor lord that the regional Lord wanted gone, requesting it in the usual way. In reality, his mouth twisted. Another quick hit and bail with the custom heart and head proof packed, probably for a display at the capital or whatever it was A.I do with their dead. He didn't get paid to think about that.
"Let's not think about it, shall we? ", Genoa offered, silently polishing his dagger carefully. The sharp end bobbing up and down like a leaf blown by the wind. "I don't think I'm about to forget the last 'medical evaluation' he gave me."
" Good. The lesson's sticking." Clearing his throat and tucking his paper in a pouch. A soft click to show it had been shut. "QuickTime, in and out, four days..."
Genoa shrugged and tucked his hands into his pockets. We are getting extra for the support mission right? "
"A mission is a mission", Alen drawled. Giving a harsh curse under his nose. Tomorrow, at 0800. We meet at the End Grove. Pack the usual."
"Yeah alright, see you tomorrow, Captain ". He simply looked on as his other faded out into the Cornerstone before rubbing his own face. .. His limbs, shaking a little, still irritated from laying in one place for what seemed like eternity...
'LOG OFF INITIATED'......The bed was cool against his skin, digging into his face comfortably. Being a Captain certainly did have its perks. Or maybe it was because he was a Beta-tester to his dad's game... Speaking of dad.... He rolled off with an annoyed grunt and made his way slowly to the elevator to his dad's self-proclaimed "Quiver"... The silence was bliss as the elevator arrived with a pleasant 'ding'.. Walking past the guards on duty and making a bee line for the desk. There was a note... And his dad's writing scribbled on it.
"Alley Cat,
Try this one will ya? It's still in progress though. Look for extra armour chinks would ya?
P.S.... Try hiding your hentai mags somewhere else? The new maid was uh... Kinda.... 'Not impressed'. So, there's that. And meat loaves in the fridge.... The usual check up.
P.S.S.... I love you.
Love,
Dad. "
'Good point.. ', I wondered.
The link up was easy enough. The Giga-net interphase began a bio-system scan for compatability,....' needs more work.'... Sure enough, the A.I startup voice welcomed him... And that's when it happened... The power had just shut down mid mind log in.... The after shock really wasn't as funny as one would think. It really only was funny when the jokes was on someone else.

.... The lights flickered... And again and again, only stopping when he blinked. Grunting deeply, he sprang himself upwards, the sudden change in position bringing a pressure that made him feel his head would explode. The dark gray of the room flickered as various colors seemed to swirl together.
"You're finally awake Zein..the.. ", he heard a voice. Slowly he felt his sanity come back to him.. Zein wasn't his name.. So where was he?..
"I always knew you had a thick head. Relax,"
"Where-", he began as he got up, running his hand through his aching....breasts?... Trudging to the mirror in the back. This had to be in his top 10 WTF list. 'Was this real?', giving his signature drawl-face palm.
"You should take it easy. You've been out for two days. Don't tell me you forgot", the stranger spoke in a monotone voice. 'Disinterested...more like'... His last vision before collapsing was the creepy smile before fading into blissful unconsciousness.
