There on the rock, waves crashing around it, waited the key. The oars creaked as I rowed towards it. I saw the key and was in awe. I had never seen a real key my entire life! I wonder what it unlocked. Maybe it unlocked a chest deep under the sea! I took the key in my hands. On the shank, it read "D13 SOLID STEEL" and on the other side, "YALE AND TOWNE MFC.CO." I wondered what that meant. I ran home with the key in my hand. "I can't wait to show father!" I said to myself. My friend, Eloise saw me running and started running beside me.
"What do you have there," she said in a suspicious manner, "It looks mighty pretty." Eloise grabbed for the key.
"No! I have to show my father!" The key fell to the ground and made a clattering noise. I bent down to grab the key and ran down to the cove, where no one but me dared to go.
I jumped in the water and started swimming, hoping to see something that could be unlocked with a key. I saw nothing. I kept swimming deeper and deeper until my gills came out. Oh ya. Did I mention I am part fish? Well I am.
I looked to my right. There was nothing. I looked straight ahead. There was still nothing! I looked to my left. There was a chest embedded in jewels! I swam towards it and started hauling it up to land so I could try and open it. The chest was dragging my down. I yelled my cry for help, "YEEEEEEEORE!" My friend, Coralia, came from deep in the sea right away.
"What do you need?" She asked calmly. Coralia and I had a special bond. Since the day we met, we have been best friends.
"I need help getting this up to land!" I tried to say while I was struggling to keep from dropping the chest.
"What?"
"Help!"
Coralia grabbed the other side of the chest and we swam up to the top of the cove. Coralia got on a rock while I lugged the chest onto sand. I grabbed the key from my pocket and put the key into the lock. Before I had even started to turn it, the chest started shaking. I turned the key to the right and nothing happened. I turning the key to the left and the chest opened. What I saw was a surprise though. There were no jewels in it. There was no trace of anything worth money. Except a merbaby.
"Coralia! Come here! I don't know what to do!"
She took the baby in her arms. "Go call the Mercouncil." she told me.
I swam down as fast as I could and called for the Mercouncil. "YEEEEEEEEORE!" The mercouncil came up right away. They knew something was wrong.
"I found a merbaby in a locked chest that I found." their faces were surprised.
"Well, where is it?" one of the council members said.
"Up on shore. Follow me." The council swam to shore with me.
"Oh! It's a baby!" one of the council members said.
The council took the baby down to the council room to decide what to do with it. They decided they would give him to a lady in the council who had recently lost her baby.
"Oh! Thank you!" the mermaid said and swam off into the deep blue sea.
The mermaid who the baby was given to named the baby Camline after the Latin word "song".
Camline grew up and lived like a normal merboy. He had tons of friends and was successful in school. One day, Camline came home with a girl. This girl was not like a mergirl. She was dark, not colorful like the rest of the mermaids. She was a siren.
There on a rock, Waves crashing around it, waited the key. The oars creaked as she rowed towards it.
