Chapter 39

_Brooke's POV_

I'm really upset that Alex left. But, I hope her career goes far. The guys come out and Jacob looks upset.

"I know Jacob, we all miss her, but we will see her again!" I say.

"That's not why I'm upset, she didn't say goodbye to me."

Then I get a text message from Alex.

The Top Dog ⚽️: Brooke I didn't say goodbye to Jacob and I feel horrible. I'm up in my room crying.

Oh my god Alex! Send him a text message saying that you are really sorry and tell him you're never taking off that necklace.

The Top Dog ⚽️: Are you sure?

Positive. He's upset too.

Alex never answered me. Jacob was on his phone and he started smiling. So I'm guessing he get her message.

"Jacob, you look really happy all of a sudden. What happened?" I ask.

"Alex texted me and told me that she is really sorry and she promises to never take off the necklace I gave her. And she sent me a puppy dog face."

"Awh!" Everyone says.

It was getting late so we all went to bed.

The next morning, I wake up and Hayes isn't there.

I walk down stairs and Hayes is on his phone.

"Hey babe, come here." Hayes says and smiles.

I smile back and sit next to him and watch him scroll through twitter.

I was going to make breakfast, but we were the only two up so there is no point.

"I'm going to get in the shower, I'll be back." Hayes says.

"Okay!"

There is a knock on the door. I stand up to get the door and there are two officers there.

"Hello, we are from the LAPD, is Hayes Grier here by any chance?"

"Nope, not here." I say.

"Have you heard of the name?"

"Never in my life."

"Can we get your name?"

I can't tell them my real name. Hayes told them his girlfriend's name is Brooke.

"Caroline Peters."

"Okay, thank you." And the officers leave.

Wow, that was close.

Hayes comes down the stairs and he must know that I had a worried look on my face because he asked if I was okay.

"The police came here. They asked if you were here."

"What did you say?"

"No. And they asked if I've ever heard of you and I said no."

"Did you ask why they wanted me?"

"No, it would've been obvious that I knew you."

"Why did you lie to them police? I want to pay for what I did."

"Because I don't want them taking you away from me. What if they hurt you?"

"They wouldn't have. Now I can't pay for what I did Brooke! Thanks a lot!"

"Hayes, I was protecting you. You should appreciate that I didn't let them take you away!"

"Maybe I don't need your help!"

"Fine, I won't help you then Hayes."

"You're not my keeper! So back off."

"You're right Hayes. I'm not your keeper. Or your girlfriend!"

I storm out of the house. It's only 9:30 am, and Hayes and I already got in a fight, and tore our relationship apart.

Maybe I just need a break from Magcon in general.

I get a text message from Julia.

Best Friend 😘: where are you? Hayes is crying and he won't tell us anything. He keeps saying "I screwed up."

I'll tell you everything. Meet me at Starbucks. Come alone, please.

Best Friend 😘: Okay, I will.

_Julia's POV_

I was sleeping when I heard a door slam and someone start crying.

"Shawn, did you hear that?"

"No..what was it?" Shawn said groggily.

"A door slammed and someone's crying. Brooke. I wonder if she's okay."

I run out of bed and go downstairs to see Hayes crying.

"What happened Hayes?"

"I screwed up."

"Where's Brooke?"

No answer.

I decide to text Brooke.

Where are you? Hayes is crying and he won't tell us anything. He keeps saying "I screwed up."

Bæ 😊: I'll tell you everything. Meet me at Starbucks. Come alone, please.

Okay, I will.

"Shawn, you and the guys comfort Hayes. I'm going to go talk to Brooke. Don't tell Hayes that I went to see Brooke because he's gonna want to come but he's not."

"Okay." Shawn says and goes upstairs to get the rest of the guys.

"Where are you going?" Hayes asks me.

"Starbucks."

"Brooke loves Starbucks." He mumbled. I pretended to not hear what he said and walk out.

When I get to Starbucks, I see Brooke sitting in a booth. I order what I usually order: Very Berry Hibiscus. I sit down with Brooke.

"So, tell me what happened."

"Okay, the police came this morning about the Johanna thing. They asked if I knew anyone named Hayes Grier, I said no. And they asked if I've ever heard of the name, I said no. They asked me for my name. If I said Brooke, then they would've known that I'm dating Hayes because he mentioned me when he went to the station. So I said that my name was Caroline Peters, and they left. Hayes flipped out on me and said that he didn't need my help and to back off because I'm not his keeper. I said that I wasn't his keeper, or girlfriend, and left."

"Well, Hayes is at the house and he's crying his eyes out."

"I care, but don't care at the same time. I broke up with him. I think I need a break with relationships."

"That's not your case, you need a break from the whole Magcon thing. The celebrity life. Take a few months off."

_Brooke's POV_

Julia was right. All this was stressing me out and I need a break.

"You're right. I do need a break. I'll book a flight tonight and leave as soon as I can."

"I'm coming with you."

"Julia, you can't. You're having so much fun with the guys and Shawn."

"You know what they say, hoes before bros."

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely."

"Okay, let's go pack and tell the guys."
