Midnight's Tale

Chapter 1 Love and Loss

Midnight yawned as she woke up. She looked outside at the starry sky. It was the night of the new moon. She smiled and walked over to her sleeping parents. She jumped up onto her parents waking them up.

"Wake up! Wake up!!! It's the New Moon!!!" She shouted happily in her young voice. Her parents both yawned as they woke up.

Her mother looked at her in annoyance. While her father got up.

"Midnight. It's too early to be getting up. The sun JUST went down. Why couldn't you let us sleep." Her mother complained.

"Oh Estrella. Don't be so cranky. Midnight is right. It is the night of the New Moon. We need to be up earlier tonight anyway. It's her first night of training and we need to get her to the training grounds on time." Her father stated calmly.

"Fine. But only because it's for her training." Moonbeam said as she got up. She started grooming the light colored dust off of Midnight's scales.

Midnight sighed and just sat there in defeat as her mother groomed her.~It's no use to try and resist Mom. I always end up getting groomed.~She thought. Once her mother finished grooming her scales she bolted out of her reach.

"Hey Mom? Is it alright if I go to the training grounds by myself this evening? After I'm in my armor of course. I'm older now, so I can fly there by myself." She said with a pleading tone in her voice.

"Fine. I'll help you get your armor on and then you can go. But be careful, I don't want you getting hurt. And if you sense any humans than fly back here as fast as you can."

Midnight smiled happily."Thank you Mom! I promise I'll be careful!" She said as she grabbed her fitted armor and started putting it on with her mother's help.

As soon as she had all of the armor on she ran out of the cave. She ran out to the clearing and took flight. As she flew over the woods with joy, she closed her eyes. Not paying attention she flew into another young fledgling.

The other fledgling squaked in surprise and turned to face her. His deep sea blue eyes showing his annoyance."Do you mind?! You flew right into me, and I'd rather not crash on my first night of training!" He snapped angrily.

Midnight opened her eyes and looked down in shame."I'm sorry about that. It's just that this is my first night going to training too." She said shyly, as she looked up at him.

He sighed."It's alright. I'm sorry I snapped at you. I'm just not used to getting up at the crack of moon rise. Anyway. I'm Claw, what's your name?" He asked more calm now.

She smiled."I'm Midnight, it's a pleasure to meet you Claw. So I guess we're going to be classmates huh? I look forward to it."~Wow. He's really cute. My first day of training and I've already met a cute boy. Though he is a bit cranky.~

Claw smiled back."Well I'm glad that I met you Midnight. Hey how about if we have to partner up, you and I could be partners? I want to get to know you more." He said with a bit of a smirk.

Midnight slightly blushed through her scales as she smiled even more."Yeah! I think that's a great idea! Race you there!" She shouted as she started flying full speed to the training grounds.

"You're on!" Claw shouted flying after her.

After Training

Midnight smiled at Claw."So I guess I'll see you tomorrow. I can't wait!!! We'll partner up together again tomorrow okay? See you then. Bye!" She said as she was about to take off.

"Wait!" Claw shouted before blushing. "I was wondering if maybe I could walk you home? I know it takes longer to walk, but I think it'd be fun. That is if it's alright with you." He said a little shyly.

"Of course you can walk me home, I'd like that." She said folding her wings back to her sides. She started walking into the forest and noticed that Claw wasn't following."Well come on then. You're the one who offered to walk me home."

"Coming!" Claw shouted sprinting to catch up with her.

Midnight smiled when she saw her cave."Come on Claw. You've come all this way with me. You might as well come inside and meet my parents." She said happily.

"Alright. I will. I can't wait to meet them." Claw said with a smile as they walked into the cave.

Midnight froze at what she saw. A sharp pain stabbing her in her heart. She ran over to the dead bodies of her parents crying. The scent of Dragon Slayers thick on them."No! Mom, Dad! Wake up. Please. You can't be dead."

Claw walked over sniffed her parents, and felt for a pulse. "Midnight... They're dead. They were killed by Dragon Slayers. We need to go before the Slayers return. You can stay with me and my parents." He said solemly."I wish there was something I could do to bring them back, but I can't."

Midnight calmed herself down, her heart still aching. "A-alright. I'm coming." She said quietly as she flew away with Claw to stay at his place.
