Looking back it was the worst decision I've ever made but in the moment it felt like I couldn't possibly make a bad choice. My head was clouded with nostalgia. Yearning for the memories of the old me. The fun me. The me before I became dull and uninteresting. Blue and white lights flashed in the corner of my eye beginning to give me a slight headache.
"Mrs. Jackson?" A police officer walked over to me with a notepad in his hand.
"Yes sir."
"Explain to me what happened."FLASHBACK
"Jenni! Come on we're leaving!" My best friend Karrie was walking out the door with her boyfriend, Cayden.
"I'll stay home! Thanks though!" I continued to flip through tv channels until I heard the door lock and Cayden's car tear down the street. I looked at the boring tv program with dry eyes as I yawned. Another day just like the last; same routines every week. What happened to the old me? I would be at that dumb party Karrie was heading to, but instead I'm at home fighting to stay awake and it's only 10:40. When did I get so lame? I opened my computer to open Netflix. Maybe this will entertain me? Just as I was about to watch Friends for the 50th time my phone rang. It was Karrie, she was crying.
"Hey love what's wrong?"
"Guess who's at the bar kissing Marie lambert?"
"Who?" I instantly knew that it was Cayden; a poor excuse of a man if you ask me.
"Cayden...please come get me."
"Send me the address and I'll be there." I hung up the phone and went to go change out of my pajamas. As stupid as it sounds I was excited to just get out of the house for once. I even put on some makeup just in case I ran into anyone nice enough to have a drink with. I looked in the mirror for a quick rating. My black hair was in a side braid ending just below my rib cage. My green eyes were lined with black eyeliner making them pop. But my favorite part is my full lips perfectly colored in with a nude shade. Deciding that I looked fine I grabbed a light jacket, looked for my keys and headed out the door. I was surprised when I realized that my gas tank was empty. Considering that I never leave my house I assumed that Karrie was using my car when Cayden wasn't dragging her around. Poor girl, I tried to tell her that he was a player but she thought he could change. Maybe he could have...if he could keep his dick in his pants. All I could do now though is pick up Karrie and help her feel better. Usually Netflix and ice cream would be fine but they were together for almost a year so we would need to do something big. Maybe, just maybe, I could work up the courage to do to a club and go dancing? That doesn't sound horrible. Not at all. Old me would do that on a Tuesday night, hands down. That's what we will do then. I turned off my car and hoped out hopeful that tonight wasn't going to explode in my face. When my tank was full I pulled back onto the main road and began to drive towards the address Karrie sent me.
