In the hot summer of July 1757 the dense forest of the Hudson River valley in North America was the scene of a cruel war. The war was between France and England. Many Indian tribes fought n the French side, including the Horons. Other tribes fought for the British or did not fight at all. One tribes had lost so much in the war that it had almost disappeared. This was the ancient tribes of the Mohicans. The French, led by General Montcalm, and their Huron allies were advancing towards Fort William Henry, held by a small Anglo-American garrison under the command of General Munro. General Webb had a much larger Anglo-American force al Fort Edward.
General Munro's Indian scouts reported that the French and Huron invaders were 'as numerous as the leaves on the trees'.
