If you're reading this right now, congratulations! I'm currently rewriting what you might recall is Crimson Thread, now entitled The Red Maelstrom. If you were a buddy or a follower during the Crimson Thread days and we got along and read each other's stuff, don't look at me please I know I'm too old to be writing OC fics. I just really need to finish this for my sanity.
Anyway, I had the old chapters up before, but I decided to take them all down because I've started writing chapters from scratch, so I'm going in a direction that would make reading the older chapters extremely confusing and off-putting.
Honestly, I'm also really sorry I ever thought it was a good idea to regurgitate content from the manga and anime, but I'm taking this editing process to my advantage to add as many new scenes as I can.
I am also sorry I ever made Kohana an extra member of Team 7, but lol idrc enough to change that so I'll just try to make it fun for y'all. Please don't copy me and my terrible mistakes lmao don't be like those other ff writers. To make up for it, I used a pretty good canon reason, but still... try not to do the 3+1 thing.
List of important things I'm working on/already changed so far
(DON'T READ THIS IF YOU'RE A FIRST TIMER!)
+ POV: Crimson Thread (the edited parts at least) is written in Third Person Limited as it should be (except for the prologue it's so embarrassing I don't really wanna touch it). Why? Crimson Thread and The Downfall are character-driven stories, and TPL is the most effective way of dealing with that without using First Person POV lmao
+Lineage: A lot of you know the truth behind Kohana's identity, but there was a discrepancy in the first chapters of Crimson Thread that was never properly addressed, so I decided to take 'em out and keep Kohana's lineage ambiguous. That's gonna change in the sequel, though, as some of you may already know. Wink wonk.
+"Those lines": If you remember the shit that stressed Kohana out during the Land of Waves Arc, congratulations! Too bad! I took them all out because there's no way an infant could have possibly remembered those words. Babies have extremely high linguistic abilities, but not at infancy. There is also infantile amnesia.
+Canon: I'll be deliberately changing some stuff about canon in a way that I believe fills in some cracks in Kishimoto's characterization. Also, I'll be changing other stuff (hehe) but rest assured, I made sure Kohana wouldn't end up being a Mary Sue for it haha.
+The coughs: Modified them. Ew. So the fights between Kohana and Sasuke that come after that are gone now, too.
+Characterization + speech patterns: Listen, Kohana's in her head like half the time. I might as well make her introspecting and cognitive processing consistent. I'm gonna flesh out Yoshiaki and Osamu properly, too. AND I'm working on speech patterns; idk how y'all let me get away with all of my inconsistencies.
+Satoru Clan politics and massacre: Fixed it. Fixed everything. I overcomplicated a lot of stuff that didn't need complicating lmao. That's what I get for making shit up as I go. Please avoid improvising back stories; you will regret everything.
+Itachi's documents: I thought it was a terrible idea when I was writing it, and it was even worse than I imagined when I thought about it almost 6 years after publishing it lmao. You think a 12 year old can get away with stealing top secret documents about a rogue ninja? Yeah. Didn't think so either.
+Manami and Shigeru: idk Naruto and Sasuke were supposed to be training for the final phase of the exams. Not to mention it's an event that invites examinees from different villages to participate, so I'm pretty damn sure mission assignments were down to a minimum and village security had the concentration of manpower. I decided to scrap that whole arc and focus instead on Team 7 stuff and fleshing out OC's. Sounds boring but I promise it's a lot better lmao.
