Chapter One
************
I woke up to the smell of food and rain slightly pouring down on my bedroom window. I sat up in bed, rubbing my tired eyes due to the lack of sleep the night before. Summer had just started, so I hardly ever slept.
I lay in bed for a while, listening to the birds chirp and staring out my bedroom window at the storming sky, wondering if I should go out today or not.
I went downstairs and of course, found my mother at the dining room table eating her regular yogurt and strawberries. She was always eating healthy, unlike the rest of our family. Deciding not to be healthy, I grabbed the pizza rolls from the freezer, set them on a plate and put them in the microwave to cook.
After I ate breakfast, I went upstairs and got ready for the day. I put on some shorts and a plain white t-shirt and sandals. I texted my best friend, Ruby, and told her to meet me at the little café downtown.
Since I lived so close to town, I just walked there instead of driving. I put my headphones in and walked the half mile to the café. The door bell rang as I went inside. I saw Ruby already sitting at the table, on her phone as usual. I sat down.
"Hey," she said as she looked up.
I sort of nodded, not really paying attention. Something caught my eye as I walked in. Ruby must've noticed, because about five seconds after, she said, "Grace. Who are you--"
Ruby didn't have time to finish her question, because right then the person I was looking at walked over to our table.
"Hello, what can I get for you ladies today?"
He was beautiful. Not the kind of guy every girl would go for, but he was quite handsome to me. He had brown short hair, along with freckles on his nose and arms. His cheeks were tinted with red. I had no idea why I hadn't met him until then.
"Uh... I would like a french vanilla coffee with Texas toast, please." I said, sounding like an idiot.
He nodded, and quickly jotted down the order and asked Ruby what she wanted. After he walked away, Ruby said, "Daaanngg! Now I know why you were staring." I smiled and blushed.
After we ate, the guy came back and gave us our bill. I noticed that his nametag said Sam.
We gave him the money, and an extra tip just because he was cute. When we left the café, I was looking through the receipt to make sure we paid the right amount, and I noticed something. Sam had written on the back of the paper.
It read:
To the blonde-haired girl who came with her friend,
I don't know you but I just thought you were really beautiful. I hope to see you again. Some day. - Sam
I looked at Ruby and gave her the receipt. She squealed with excitement, and on our way home, I couldn't help but think about the adorable, shy boy who had just entered my life.
