Chapter Four:
What is Going On?
Jake’s Pov.
“Kenzi!” I called. Where is that strange child? I thought to myself. I began to search. Then something it hit me. Something is wrong. She’s in danger. I walked around then spotted a flash of blonde and purple going into an alley. I ran after it.
The alley was dark and just plain creepy. I looked in and saw three guys, two holding a girl-who I recognized her as Kenzi- and one standing in front of her. I walked down the alley, ducking behind a dumpster.
“So, your Jake’s girl? Wow, he sure can pick ‘em.” I knew that voice. The guy turned around and I caught sight of his face. Shit.
It was my mortal enemy. Simon Vertices, he has been pissed at me since I accidently stole his girlfriend. I walked by her a few days after I was Stamped and she just fell in love with me. I just kept trying to push her away. But she was so clingy. I think she’s the school slut now. Anyway he swore revenge on me.
Kenzi struggled, and then she stopped when Simon pulled a knife out. “Shit.” I breathed. My heart was racing, but you couldn’t see fear in Kenzi’s eyes. She wasn’t scared? How could she not be scared? God, this is my entire fault. I looked and saw Simon twirling the knife around his fingers.
“Oh, how rude I’ve been. I’m Simon Vertices, head of the Grey Gang.”
Kenzi struggled and managed to get her mouth free. “I’m Kenzi; I just met Jake so I’m NOT his girl. Nice to meet you. And I’m also the Badass of the middle school.”
“You’re in middle school?”He asked confused.
“I was. I’m going into high school. Everybody does.” She said. I shook my head. Kenzi was asking for trouble.
“You’re funny.” Simon said. He got up really close to her. “How ‘bout you ditch him and come to me.”
Kenzi thought for a moment. “Okay.” My heart sunk, “Over my dead body!” she said. “Now step the hell away from me, our I will cut you balls off and feed them to you for lunch!” she yelled. She began to struggle. She pushed herself into one of the guys knocking him back into a wall. She elbowed the other guy in the ribs and tried to run down the alley.
I jumped up and lunged at Simon who tried to grab Kenzi. I kicked him in shin, making him drop to the floor. Then other guys stood up and cornered us to the wall. Kenzi pulled out two pocket knives handing one to me and kept one for her. One of the guys attacked Kenzi knocking her into the wall. He pinned her there, “Not so tough now, are ya?”
Kenzi eyes, seemed to glow with anger and determination. She kicked him in the crouch and shoved him back making him stumble over wood planks and buckets. “Not so tough now, are ya?” she asked doing a perfect imitation of his voice.
I smiled, but suddenly was knocked back sent into the wall. “Jake!” Kenzi screamed. Suddenly I was pinned to the wall, off my feet, hung by my neck. I kicked at the guy. Then I managed a nice hard kick filled with all my power. I thought of a match, and then it turned into a large fire, slowly getting bigger.
“AH! My hands are on fire!” I smiled as the guy let go. I dropped to the ground. I got up and ran; I grabbed Kenzi by the back of the shirt. Her eyes widened.
“How did you-“I cut her off with, “Now’s not the time.” I told her. I pushed her out of the alley. I tried to follow when I was yanked back by my shirt.
