It was the first night of the festival the lights that lead down the trail shone like stars. I was alone like always it was perfect no one to get in the way. I was barely able to reach the checkpoint when I caught him.
"That's it just keep walking just a little more." My scope aimed just a foot in front of my target. BANG the bullet flew right towards him but just as fast as it left the barrel it was deflected. "Damn." I packed up and ran into the safety of the forest when I heard footsteps from behind. I ran behind a tree and grabbed the pistol that was in my bag I sat waiting then as if time froze he was right in front of me.
"Oh and like that it's the end of another exciting match the winner is Victor Verdant." The crowd cheered as I sat looking at Victor.
"Good match." He had his hand outstretched to help me get up. I simply nodded as I took his hand. The guards came and escorted me to the gate.
"Thanks guys maybe next year." They open the gate and smiled as I left. Just outside the gate my friends were waiting for me.
"Hey you got really far this year but you need to stop going after Victor after you get a couple of kills." John my oldest friend said as he ran up to me.
"Yeah John's right you need to stop going after Victor let Celia deal with him." My other friend Karma said as she smacked the back of my head.
"Hey at least I didn't get out right off the bat like some people" I said jokingly just as I said that the announcer came back on.
"Ladies and gentlemen the match we've all been waiting for Victor Verdant VS. Celia Bloom." The crowd went mad as the fighting started. We ran to our seats just in time to watch Celia's final strike. "Like every year before Celia Bloom takes the win."
"Oh man we missed the fight." We ran back down to meet Victor at the gate.
"Dude what happened you can normally do better than that." Karma asked as Victor came through the gates.
"Eh she was fast I couldn't keep track of her." He looked at me and gave a small smile. "You came far this year maybe next time you can get me." I felt my face heat up a little as we headed to our seats.
"Hey do you still have that crush on Victor?" Karma asked as we watched another fight. My face went red as I pulled her aside. "Oh so you do still like him." I smacked the back of her head as she laughed.
"I do not besides it's not like he feels the same." She pulled out her dagger from underneath her cloak.
"Do you remember what I told when you gave this to me?" She asked as she held the dagger in front of my face.
"Of course I do how could I forget." She smiled as she stared to repeat what I said.
"As long as we stay together there is nothing or no one that can stand in our way to reach our goals." A tear formed in her eye as she continued. "As long as we stick together we can get through the hard times, you told me that the day you saved me from those bandits." She gave a weak smile then ran up and hugged me. "If you really want Victor to be by your side I'll help any way I can." I smiled and hugged her back.
"Ladies and gentlemen the last fight of the day will be Celia Bloom VS. Niko Summers." The crowd went dead silent as the air grew tense. "Wait this can't be right Mr. Niko was disqualified for illegal actions." The crowd started to run in panic as the match began. "Everyone please leave in a calm and orderly fashion." Me an Karma looked at each other then ran back to Victor and John we found them helping with the evacuation.
"Elizabeth, Karma we need to go and get Celia out of there be he kills her." Victor said as he destroyed a tree that was flying right at us.
"I'll take up a sniping spot in the stands you three go get her out." I said as the other jumped into the arena. I set up right where we were talking and took aim I waited for the others to get close enough so I could give them a distraction.
