Chapter 2:
I never knew, I never knew that everything was falling through. That everyone I knew was waiting on a cue, to turn and run when all I needed was the truth.
---
Keep your head up. Don’t make friends. Don’t mess up. Don’t back down. Don’t let them know you are weak. My mind was on a loop only thinking those things.
It was like a little voice was telling me that if I didn't do these things something bad might happen.
I lazily walked from class to class, not paying attention to which one I was currently in.
Right now I was gazing out the window like I had been all morning. The teacher, a man in his late 40s whose beer belly was sticking out, was going over class procedures and other ‘First day essentials’. It was easy to tune him out.
What was not easy to tune out were my thoughts. They seemed particularly stuck on the boy with the sunglasses. I found myself wanting to know more about him. Why did he where sunglasses inside? What was his eye color? What was he hiding behind the glasses?
I was very good at reading people from their eyes. Haven’t you seen those movies that start out all creepily with a little girls voice saying ‘You can tell everything about someone from their eyes especially me.’ and then they would show this girl with like creepily blue eyes who saves the world or some shit like that. Yeah, well in this instance I was the creepy little girl.
Except I had no plan to save the world, just myself.
---
The bell rang, making me jump out of my seat. I glanced at my schedule noticing I had lunch next, a small smile appearing on my face.
Making my way to my locker I glanced at the people around me. They were joking with friends or waiting for their friends to get their lunches. Of course there were a few loners like me, wandering around, waiting for someone to judge them, just like me.
I turned the dial on my locker, having to lift it a little in order to pry it open.
A loud group of guys were walking past, most likely jocks. I kept my head in my locker trying my best to ignore them. That was rendered impossible when I felt someone smack my butt.
I whipped around looking for the offender.
“Wow, new girls’ got ass.” The guy right behind me said.
I narrowed my eyes. Before I could stop my hand had already made contact with his face.
He held a shocked expression.
“Oops. You might want to get some ice on that before it bruises.” I said faking concern.
Various ‘ooohs’ and ‘oh you tell him’ were shouted. I looked around the group of jocks to see that people had made a ring around us, at least two people thick.
The whole 'group' stood there frozen.
“Move, or your friends will also be needing some ice” I said, my voice laced with venom. I don’t care if I sounded like a selfless bitch. I was a selfless bitch.
He finally got the message and took one step back, giving me room to pass.
“Thanks” I said giving him my biggest smile. You know what they say ‘Kill them with kindness’.
I physically made my way to the lunch room, while mentally I was going over the last few minutes events in my head. I was so caught up in my mind I didn’t know someone was in front of me until I ran into him.
