Now is just so happened that Harry ends up with Snape's potions textbook in Half-Blood Prince. The book is filled with notes on how to condgur the potions and spells correctly. Towards the end of the story Snape kills Dumbledore and reveals that he is the Half-blood Prince. He then joins Voldemort's side "officially", but Draco Malfoy was supposed to be the one to Kill Dumbledore, it was very hard for him to be tasked with this mission but Snape stepped in and took Draco's spot last minute. Voldemort suspected Snape of being a traitor, and although he tequically was a traitor, more importantly he was a traitor to Voldemort and NOT dumbledore. If anything he was beyond loyal to Dumbledore. Being the hero he is, very little people know that Dumbledore asked, well more like told Snape that he must be the one to Kill him, for its the only way that Voldemort would trust him completely.
