Okay so I did some research, there are over 8000 genres of music in the world, the mainstream ones we hear are only but a handful of them. Some of these genres, uncommon and common include grunge, alternative, blues, classical, country, dance, easy listening, electronic, hip-hop, rap, pop, jazz, indie, latino, opera, rock, the list goes on. And these are only genres, they have sub genres for example there are seven different types of blues! What im trying to say is there is such a variety of music in the world, something to suit any mood or emotion, any occasion and personal taste that the thing I don’t understand, is people hating on different types of music. People get labeled because of the music they listen to. They get shoved into stereotypical groups because of the music that makes them happy. And I just cant start to understand why people are bullied because of what makes them happy. Okay for example Justin Bieber, I know so many people say they hate him, but do you really have reason to? He sounds like a girl, is that a reason to hate someone, and is it a reason to be so spiteful and judgmental calling him gay and tearing it out of his fans, because his music means something to them. He is doing something with his life, and he has talent. Micheal Jackson sounded like a girl yet he was one of the most famous people in the world. So if you do hate Justin Bieber just think for a bit do you really have reason to? If you hate him you don’t listen to his music right? You listen to the music you like, so why waste your time hating on something instead of just doing what you enjoy and letting other people be happy. This is what I just don’t get, why? And I think the main problem which isn’t actually a problem but this worlds full of people that seem to make it one, is that people listen to different types of music, the main word being different. And some people seem to think if the music that person that isn’t them, and doesn’t look like them and who dresses differently, talks, acts, lives differently listens to isn’t the same as theirs, then I don’t even know, their weird? Their abnormal? Because they like different noises to you? Since that’s all music is ,noise, they like different sound waves!? Different frequencies so they must definently be weird!
Im not perfect, and I cant say ive never said I hate Justin bieber, because I have, I don’t hate him, I just don’t pay attention to him, I just listen to what I like and let other people get on with it. Because when you go to a concert and are surrounded by people who love the same music as you, who cherish the same lyrics, that’s the most amazing feeling ever.
So why is it that I’ll be on youtube for example, and I’ll be watching a music video and there will be comments like ‘oh this bands rubbish their music sucks blah blah blah’ fair enough you don’t like music and you may have made this clear by stating it and talking to other people about it but WHO are these ignorant people who feel a good way to spend their time is to go on youtube and basically just troll videos and comment that they don’t like them!? WHY ARE YOU WATCHING IT IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT!? No one is making you listen to it!? Its your choice what music you want to hear so why!? I don’t get it!? How is doing that any better than just listening to music you DO like. Why go out of your way to upset others when music I opinion and there is no right or wrong! Who are any of us to say other music is bad, cus its purely choice, and everyones choices are different.
When I went to Reading festival, I saw bands get bottled and boo’ed. It was a weird atmosphere. The crowd was full of people that wanted be there, and that liked that band and music, people who didn’t know who they were which is fair enough because half the time I didn’t, people who didn’t really like it but ya know were just waiting for another band, and other people who didn’t like it that wanted to make this known. For one there are loads of stages, and two you paid rather a lot of money for a ticket to listen to music you like so why are you wasting your time here trying to ruin it for others while you could be enjoying it yourself. And I think the sad thing is they probably are enjoying abusing a band, who are only try to make their fans happy, who cant be ‘cus theirs idiots trying to ruin it for everyone. I guess half the people are just like sheep and follow the first person to throw a bottle ‘cus their at a festival, and that’s what you do. But it makes me kinda cringe abit, that people are like this, I think its childish and people just need to grow up. Another thing I think because music is art, its so open, and theres no right or wrong, its so touchable that this is the only kinda thing in the world people can hate on. I mean if you for example I don’t know don’t like a certain shop up a highstreet you just don’t shop there but with music you can bully, and hate, and destroy just because, well because, you can, I don’t understand the need to do this though. I guess im talking about something that’s never gunna change because people cant handle people being different, and not the same as them. We wouldn’t have different types of genres if there weren’t people with different tastes. But music is such an amazing thing, its such an influence on my life and on so many others. I love music and im open to different types. I mean I love rock, the hard stuff, the near on pop, I don’t mind screamo, and I like people like Jessie j and kaity perry. I love acoustic guitar, dubstep, I absolutely love modestep I even have Swedish rap music on my ipod. I remember the point in my life when I started listening to music. It must have been 2009 and I was at a Halloween party and heard a song called teenagers by my chemical romance that I dunno I just loved. I didn’t even like rock, I didn’t dislike it but id never explored it and since then ive explored music and I think these closed minded, ignorant, judgemental people are missing out on enjoying the amazing thing that changes lives, makes people famous and just happy. Music.
