As soon as I got home I crawled into my warm bed and just stared.Nothing made sense and none of my questions were answered. Why was there a lock down? Why for so long?Why-"Hey sweetie you alright?"My mom said, interrupting my thoughts.

"Uhhh y-yeah I'm fine. Wh-Why what's going on?"

She looked at me with sympathy and warmly said"Come with me".Even though her voice was like silk I was still worried. Why was she using her"Your pet goldfish died"voice?Something was definitely going on.

I followed my mom to the living room and sat down on the beige couch. My mom handed me a pillow and turned on the T.V.She changed the channel to News at 5 and sat down cautiously on the couch.

A perky news reporter comes on with a happy smile and genuine voice.Whatever was going on couldn't have been that bad.......I mean the guy looked like he had just won the lottery or something .The reporter began talking about the weather and sports. As soon as I began dozing off I heard the emergency news report sound and shot back up.

(Just some sound effects to fuel your imagination for this situation)

The news reporter face became grim and I began to worry. "This afternoon at around 12:15 a 25 year old Caucasian man was shot and killed".

I looked over at my mom, confused."Why is this important? Can I leave? I have algebra homework to do."My mom turned and grabbed my hand "Stay" she said with her voice wavering. So I stayed and kept watching. The man continued,"The killer is assumed to be 6 feet and wearing a dark hood.We found the body by Riverside High School."

My hands became clammy and I felt as if my heart had stopped beating. The thought of a murderer being so close to my school made me dizzy.I had so many questions circling my thoughts like an anxiety ridden ferris wheel.

I stared at my mom nervously. What was I supposed to say in this situation? It stayed silent in the living room for what seemed like a millennium until my mom finally broke the silence. "I want you to stay home tomorrow....I-I'm just so glad you're safe." She sounded like she was on the verge of tears.I tried to reassure her."Mom you don't need to worry...I know how to defend myself.I'll be fine...please just let me go to school tomorrow." I had an Algebra test tomorrow and the Algebra teacher basically puts you through hell when you're absent. "Absolutely not...you are staying home." My mom said sternly.Whatever I guess I can just have a day off .Tomorrow should be interesting.
