Prologue

I sit in this cold building, full of beeping and beds. You could occasionally here a scream down the hallway or doctors yelling to get a patient into surgery. Every single room is the same as the other; only some small details are different; like a water-bottle is in a different place, or there is a different machine, or the television might be turned a different way.

Every one is here for a different reason.

I'm here for my boyfriend.

He's been in a coma for two weeks, and I've just been sitting here by his bed side, trying to put on a brave face, trying to convince myself everything will be okay, but I'm starting to slowly lose hope.

My eyes have been full of tears for these two long and difficult weeks, but I can no longer cry because my eyes have become extremely dry.

I looked over at Alexander again in his bed, motionless. Chills went down my spine and goosebumps swarmed my arms and legs as I looked at the state he's in. Usually he would be fidgeting with his thumbs or trying to talk to someone, but all of that is gone.

What could I have done?

I hear a slight knock on the door, making me fall back further into my uncomfortable seat.

"Wh-who is it?" I asked.

"Herc and Laf, can we come in?" Laf requested, with his French accent that was immediately recognizable.

"Y-yeah, come in." I sighed.

I watched the door gently swing open as Herc and Laf stepped inside the room. They both sat down in the two other chairs in the room.

"So, is Alex showing any signs of waking up?" Herc asked.

"H-he's been the same s-since Monday. I'm really s-starting to think h-he isn't going to wake up." I doubted.

"I'm sure he will, but we just have to wait. I think all of us are getting impatient, but we need to have a little bit more hope, mon ami." Laf assured.

I glanced over to them to notice Alexander and I's photo album.

"Wait, wh-where'd you get that?"

"You left it in our car a few weeks ago, we thought it'd be a good idea to bring it to you."

Herc handed it over to me.

"Well, th-thanks."

We sat in an awkward silence for a few seconds.

"Do you want us to stay with you or do you want to be alone?"

"You can leave if you want to, your choice."

Laf turned on his phone screen, checking the time, knowing there was no clock in the room.

"Herc, we gotta go. Sorry John!"

"It's fine."

They both left the room, making the room feel empty again. More life had been sucked out of the lifeless room. The only thing left behind was the photo album, holding almost all the memories Alex and I had.

I looked back over at the bed before I decided to open up to the cover to the first page.
